has bestowed upon t he Bible I nst itute of Los A ngeles, with some increase in our Facul ty, thi s additi onal work could be given here in a more satisfactory way in some respects than at most of our seminari es . In additi on t o thi s, many mini sters of d iffe rent denominations have sa id to us that they f elt t hat the Bible Inst itute was unde r an obli gat ion to the churches t o give t hi s addi tional work here at the Inst itute, and at the same time to give other work that could not be given in most t heological seminaries . A large measure of pressure has been brought to bear upon us to add a year to our work fo r those who a re can didates fo r the regular mini stry, and we could not but feel t hat the opini on of the mini sters in these different denominations was thoroughly justified by the facts in the case, and so it was dec ided to give an addit ional yea r fo r those who a re prepa ring fo r pastoral work at home or abroad, and for others who wi sh to take it fo r one reason or another. Alert min isters and laymen in recent years have become a la rmed at the large number of churches throughout the coun t ry that a re not supplied wi th pastors and cannot be supplied by the output of the exi sting t heological seminaries . Further st ill , there have been sini ster development s of a most ala rming charac ter in the teaching in not a few of our theological semi nari es, and the courses given, instead of fitting men fo r the mini st ry, in many instances have thoroughly unfitted t hem fo r that important work. Of course, thi s 1s not true of all the theological seminari es . Some of them are thoroughly sound and doing a fine work, and we have not hesitated to send our student s to them to get work whi ch hitherto they have been unable to get at the Bible Institute. For Whom Intended Thi s three year course fo r pastor s is intended p rimarily fo r men in the va rious denominations who intend t o take up t he work of the regula r pas torate at home or abroad ; but it is also intended fo r men who a re a lready in the past orate whose preparat ion hitherto has been inadequate fo r the work and who have come to reali ze t he inadequacy of it by their actual ex peri ence in the work.
