\\'est. There will also be opportuniti es for the students to ob-· serve and study and parti cipate in the work of this rapidly growing church in all its many phases. 8. Advanced English A course will be given in Advanced English; that is, in literary and platform English. The students will be taught by lectures, books and by actual practice not merely to speak gram matically but to speak logically, forcefully and convincingly, to speak so as to obtain results. In this course the students will be trained to express themselves, both in writing and in speaking, ciearly, accurately, forcef ully and attractively; but clearness, accuracy and vigor of expression will be emphas ized rather than beauty of expression. The students will be con stant ly warned against adopt ing so ornate and fasc inating a style that people will lose the thought in their admiration for the words in which the thought is expressed. They will be taught how to acquire a large, varied and choice vocabulary, and to express t hemselves in telling phrases and incisive sen tences that will fasten themselves in the memory, and thus fix the truth. They will also be shown the proper arrangement of words and clauses in a sentence in order to produce the best effect. 9. Greek and Hebrew Vve are persuaded that a thorough knowledge of New Testament Greek is of great value to the mini ster of the Gospel, and that a thorough knowledge of Hebrew is of con siderable value; but at the same time we are convinced by long observati on that a mere smattering of Greek or Hebrew is worse than no knowledge at all of these languages. Many of our semi nari es, even t hose connected with universities that have the highest scholarly rating, are no longer requ iring either Greek or Hebrew as a condi t ion of graduati on or of taking the B. D. degree. There will be no attempt in the course at the Institute to teach the rud iments of Greek, nor the rudiments of Hebrew. If one has not a considerable knowledge of Greek before coming to the Institute, any knowledge that he could _get in a three year coLu-se here, or anywhere else, would be of
