The sound s of Engl ish speech are first ana lyzed, th en the speech sound s peculiar to mi ss ion lan ds are in vestigated a nd a nalyzed. Th e s tud ent is taught how to classify unfamiliar speech sounds in order that they may be accurat ely reprod uced and prope r ly reco rded. No study is of mo re vita l importance to the missi ona ry cand idate fo r fo reign service than to master the cou r se in Phonetics. 843-4. History of Christ ian Missions.
