of the world; the call and qualifications of the missionary are presented and instruction given as to applying to the boards; the mi ssionary on the field, his relation towards his fellow missionaries, toward s the board, towards the heathen, and the care of his own health, are dealt with . . The various phases of home missionary work are also consiclerecl, such as, the immi grant problem, the Indian problem, the Negro problem, and the work among the mountaineers of the south. The Institute is highly favored in having, either as enrollee! students or visitors, returnee! missionaries representing in the course of the year practically every great world field and every great mission board, and the students are always given an opportunity to hear from them. One term is devoted to a full course of instructi on in First Aid to the Injured and Home Hygien e. XX. Public Speaking and the Reading of the Scriptures Instruction in this course will cover everything that is fundamental and essential in the use of the voice in public ex pression in preaching and teaching, and the public reading of the Bible. Very specific instruction will be given in the care and development of the voice, in enunciation and pronuncia ti on and also in diction and style, both in writing and speak ing. The students will be required to make public addresses before the class, to be criticised by the class and by the instruc tors. T he students will al so be required to speak in public, in open air meetings, shop meetings and churches, and their work will be reviewed and crit icized. They wi ll be required to read the Bible and will be shown their defects and how they can be corrected. It is especially aimed to teach the students to think on their feet and to be ready on all occasions to express the truth in the most fo rcible and telling way. XXI. Bible Lands and Manners and Customs The object of thi s course is to enable students to under stand the Bible in the light of the lands and customs in which the Bible was written.
