The students will be taught by lectu res, books and by actual pract; ce not merely to speak g ram­ mat icall y but to speak logically, forcefu lly and convincing ly, to speak so as to obtain result s. [n thi s course the stud ent s will be tra ined to express themseh·es, both in writing and in speaking, ciearl y, accurateh ·, forcefu ll y a nd attract ively ; but clearness, accuracy and ,·;gor of exp ress ion will be emphasized rat her t ha n beau ty of express ion. The students will be con­ stantl y warned aga inst adopt ing so ornate and fasc inating a style tha t people will lose the thought in their adm iration for t he words in whi ch the thought is expressed. They wi ll be taught how to acquire a large, va1·i ed and choice vocabulary, and to express themselves in te lling phrases and inci sive sen­ tences that will fas ten themseh·es in the memory, a nd thus fi x the truth. T hey wi ll a lso be shown the proper arrangement o f words a nd clauses in a sentence in order to produce the best effect. 9. Greek and Hebrew \ \ ' e a re persuaded that a thorough knowledge of Kew Testament Greek is of g reat Ya lue to the mini ster of the Gospel, a nd that a thorough knowl edge of Heb rew is of con­ side rable 1·a lue; bu t at the same t ime we a re convinced by long obser vat ion that a mere smatteri ng of Greek or Hebrew is worse than no knowledge at all of these languages. :\!any of our semi na r ies, even those connected with uni ve rsi6es that ha ye the highest scholarly rat ing, are no longer requiring either Greek or Hebrew as a conditi on of graduat ion or of taki ng the 13 . D. deg ree. There wi ll be no attempt in the course at the Inst itute to teach the rud iments of Creek. nor the rudiments of Hebrew. If one has not a considerable knowledge of Greek before corn; ng to the Institute. any knowledge that he could get in a three yea r course here , or anywhe re else, wou ld be of
