THE SCHOOL OF SACRED MUSIC
The demands for the finer training of Christian musicians to fill the important places of service encouraged the Bible Institute of Los Angeles to create the School of Sacred Music. There are two courses, namely, the three-year Bible Institute Music Course leading to a diploma; the fou r-year Bible College Course earning the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music.
THE MUSIC DIPLOMA
The Bible Institute offers the music diploma through the School of Sacred Music after the completion of the three-year prescribed course of 108 units.
THE BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE (MUSIC MAJOR)
The four-year course, which is the three-year diploma course with one added year, leads to the A.B. degree in music. It carries 144 units, including eight units of Christian service plus a thesis or recital.
MUSICAL ORGANIZATIONS
THE CORONATION CHOIR. The Choir of approximately thirty-two voices, is the officia l Institute choir, which sings the classics and hymns of the church, emphasis being placed on the spiritual interpretation of music. FRESHMEN CHOIRS. Incoming students are assigned to either the Male Choir or the Ladies Lyric Choir for one year. These large groups appear at special school functions, and at Youth for Christ rallies. This musical expression gives all Bible Institute students an opportunity to discover their own musical abilities. THE BAND. Symphonic and martial music and band arrangements of hymns of the Church form the repertoire of the uniformed Institute Band. It appears at many of the school functions, and presents two band concerts as well as two annual tours. PSALMIST STRING QUARTET. One of the expressions of music is the Psalmist String Quartet, composed of first violin, second violin, viola, and cello. The classics of chamber music, as well as carefully chosen hymns, are used. This group appears on programs fitted to this type of musical interpretation. 66
