From time to time officers of the International Association, the State Association, and the American Sunday-school Union ad dress the students in this class. XVII. The Use of the Blackboard In thi s class students are carefully trained in the use of the blackboard in setting forth Gospel truth. Every Bible teacher, and especially the workers in the Sunday-school, should be able to sketch off-hand maps or other illustrations that will get and hold the attention of the class. Elaborate blackboard drawings are not attempted, but any student with some natural gift for drawing wi ll get sufficient training in the fundamentals to develop the gift along correct lines. XVIII. Missions In thi s course is covered the hi story of Christian missions up to and including the organization of the great mi ssionary boards; the needs of, and the missionary forces in the great heathen lands are studied, and the student is also made famil iar with the principal features of the great heathen religions of the world; the call and qualifications of the missionary are presented and instruction given as to applying to the boards; the mi ssionary on the field, his relation towards his fellow missionaries, towards the board, towards the heathen, and the care of his own health, are dealt with. The various phases of home missionary work are also considered, such as, the immi grant problem, the Indian problem, the Negro problem, and the work among the mountaineers of the south. The Institute is highly favored in having, either as enrolled students or visitors, returned missionaries representing in the course of the year practically every great world field and every great mission board , and the student s are always given an opportunity to hear from them. XIX. Public Speaking and the Reading of the Scriptures Instruction in this course will cover everything that is fundamental and essential in the use of the voice in public ex-
