Upper Canada district school trustees enjoyed a positive year-end report before their Christmas holiday break. Director Stephen Sliwa presented his an- nual report on the 2014-2015 school term to the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) during a recent session before the December holiday break. The report, titled Creating Futures, Leading and Learning for All , summarizes the successes of the Upper Canada district during the previous term in meeting its four strategic priorities of “achieving excellence, ensuring equity, promoting well-being, and enhancing public confidence” throughout the school district. “This report is about the individual and collaborative involvement of everyone in our
organization,” stated Sliwa, “to provide our students with the very best public education has to offer. The report is about closing gaps in learning to realize student achievement and potential, and celebrate the success of our students, our schools and our staff.” Details of the report focus on how the UCDSB has worked on improving student skills inmathematics and reading, and also results in dealing with students mental and physical health needs. Other items covered in the report include comment on the new UCTV website setup to enhance online communications for students and staff on school events, curriculum and other items. The report is available at www.ucdsb.on.ca. Benson Group expands
The Benson Group has completed a $6 million expansion to their tire distribution centre and retread plant in their home base of Cornwall, Ontario. The expansion to the building at 805 Education Road is the latest component to position the Benson Group as the largest distributor of Goodyear Tire in Canada. It includes building repairs, enhancements, racking, and monorail as well as retread and warehouse equipment. It’s the first retread tire plant in Eastern Ontario. In addition to the financial investment, the expansion also means an additional 45 new staff to the Benson Team. “This investment is a sign of our commitment to calling Cornwall home,” said Benson Group president Marty Benson. “It’s allowed us to add staff as well as solidifying our position as a leader in tire distribution.”
