King's Business - 1953-12

is all right in its place but that place is not the house of God. It has a strong tendency to detract from the spirit of worship. As a result of His feeling in this matter, Jesus exercised His authority and put an end to the commercialism. Asserting Authority in Prophecy and Life vv. 18-22 When the Jews asked Jesus for a sign He prophesied His own resurrection. Not even His own disciples understood what He meant at the time (v. 18). Not until after the resurrection took place did they realize the meaning of His prophecy. Only God knows the future and only God has the power of life over death. Jesus while here on earth demonstrated that He is master of both. Therefore He is God. A Faulty Belief vv. 22-25 W e read that many believed on Christ at this time because of His miracles but Jesus “ did not commit himself unto them.” In other words, He did not believe in them.. Jesus knew that their faith was not unto salvation. It was only a super ficial thing which did not reach the heart. It takes more than seeing miracles to save a soul. It takes the work of the Spirit of God in the heart. Have you ex perienced the Spirit’s work in your heart? Helps for the Children Jesus at a Wedding John 2:1-10 Memory Verse: "Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it" (John 2:5). Sometimes we think of the Lord Jesus as only a sorrowful man who refused to enter into the joys of, other people. John tells us in his Gospel of the Saviour and His disciples attending a wedding which was a joyful occasion. During the wed ding an unfortunate thing happened. The wine was gone before the celebration was ended. Mary, the mother of Jesus Was present at the wedding. Immediately she told Jesus of the difficulty, for she knew that He was the Son of God. Mary said to the servants, “Whatsoever he saith un to you, do it.” The Saviour told the ser vants to fill six large waterpots with wa ter. They might have argued that the people wanted wine, not water. Appar ently they remembered the word of Mary, for God’s Word says that they filled them at Jesus’ command. The Saviour told them to pour out the liquid and give some to the leader of the wedding celebration. God’s Son had changed the water into wine! The leader told the bridegroom that this wine -was better than that which had been served at first! The Son of God had performed His first miracle; He had done something that only God could do! Jan. 17, 1954 The New Birth John 3:1-16 Nicodemus appears in remarkable con trast to the people mentioned in the prev ious chapter, verses 23-25, who did not possess a saving faith. But “there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus.” The but is not in the King James trans lation, but it is in the Greek. Nicodemus possessed a different attitude from the others with the result that evidence points to his becoming a saved man. CONTINUED ►
