Arizona Bible Institute Merges with OP he ministry of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, Incorporated, has
the expressed purpose of presenting a better product to the general public at a lower cost of operation. The Board and Administration of the Arizona Bi ble Institute felt, that in merging with Biola, their students would receive not only the highest type _of academic learning, coupled with an emphasis upon spiritual standards, but that the same leadership and guidance, which has characterized the phenominal growth of Biola through these past years, would be experienced there. Naturally, this merger will bring forth some .changes. We will be strengthening the faculty with hew ap pointments — students will be able to enjoy full transfer of credits to Biola and thereby have the same privileges of accreditation, as well as the estab lishment of a Spirit-led program in policy, curricular, and campus devel opment. We have many Arizona friends who listen to these broadcasts, as do those in neighboring Colorado and New Mex ico. Some friends have asked, “Will Biola be sending students from its- In stitute program to Phoenix?” No, that is not our plan. Of course, there will be those who will want to be in a smaller student body to en joy the fine facilities and take advan tage of living closer to their homes. But Arizona Bible Institute will oper ate, as it has in the past, even as will our other four schools here in Los An geles. As to the financing of this ministry in Arizona — it will be carried along on the same principle as we are here at Biola. Doubtless our friends have read of large corporation, foundation, or individual gifts which many schools have received. In Biola’s history we have never received such gifts. We be lieve one reason is that in all five schools “We preach Christ Jesus the Lord, and Him crucified.” There is still the offense of the Cross! Biola will not minimize its doctrinal stand for any individual or organization. This is our 26
never been static. As we have seen the needs of both the home and foreign fields for qualified and thoroughly pre pared young people, we have advanced our program of training to meet these requirements. To this end, in addition to our Bible Institute course, in 1950 Biola College came into existence — accredited last year with the Western College Asso ciation. Additional to the College, in 1945 the School of Missionary Medi cine was started, and in 1952 the Tal bot Theological Seminary was estab lished. Time does not permit giving the many reasons for, and results of, the institution and remarkable growth of these schools. Today, however, Biola embarks upon a new era and is adding a fifth school to the organization — namely, the historic and God-blessed Arizona Bible Institute located at Phoe nix. The logical question is — how did this come about? Well, more than 1000 business firms merge every year with Mrs. Electa Oltrogga, librarian, urweils portrait of Dr. John Hubbard, in whose memory the new library was constructed.
