> THE SANDPEARL RESORT AND THE OPAL SANDS RESORT H aving spent all of my Florida vacations on the east coast, visiting and discovering Clearwater Beach was quite a treat. Splitting our stay between Sandpearl Resort and Opal Sands Resort, we had the opportunity to experience two of the nest hotels overlooking the hypnotic Gulf of Mexico and the #1 rated beach in the state. e powdery so sand, vibrant sunsets, and endless array of activities make this a destination not to be missed. Both the Sandpearl and Opal Sands provide a level of service, quality of food and overall ambiance consistent with their AAA 4 Diamond rating. Both have coastal-inspired spas, ne dining and casual restaurants, zero entry pools with cabanas and tness centers overlooking the beach. Sandpearl, with its transitional décor, celebrates Clearwater and a timeline of the hotel’s history with a wall of photos, while Opal Sands, which was recently opened, is a study in clean and modern design. Both hotels provide daily activities such as tness classes, games, and making s’mores on the beach at sunset. Opting for a more gourmet experience, you can schedule an inspiring cooking demonstration with Chef Steve Jordan at Caretta on the Gulf, Sandpearl’s upscale restaurant. Although you may never feel the need to leave either of these resorts, when it comes time to venture out and explore Clearwater activities, there will be no shortage of good options. Pier 60, located in close proximity to both hotels, features festivals, food, musicians, playgrounds, and provides a focal point for gathering. e Clearwater Marine Aquarium, another popular attraction, became famous a er Dolphin Tale was lmed there telling the true story of Winter, a dolphin who lost her tail and was tted with a prosthetic. Kayaking or boating while wild dolphins swimalongside is fun for all ages. Parasailing, jet skiing and shing are all easily accessible at the marina. I was surprised to learn that there is a Dali museum in St. Petersburg (less then one-half hour drive) featuring the largest collection of his work outside of Europe. Clearwater is also chock full of cra breweries which Sandpearl will schedule tours of along with transportation. Despite the elegance and upscale nature of these two resorts, the overall vibe in this pristine beach town is laid back and casual, and very family-friendly. You’ll nd the seafood is fresh and plentiful and the signature cocktails creative and delicious. While Miami, Boca and the Keys are certainly great places at which to vacation, don’t overlook the special ambiance and charm of Clearwater.
