One of the youngest bulls in the sale. His mother, a former donor cow for Classic Angus, came up with a bad bag this summer so it affected his performance. With her past record, it is safe to say he will be ok.

About our Ranch

At the Katus Ranch we are much more than just a seedstock op- eration. We are 4th and 5th generation ranchers that take pride in the diversification of our farm and ranch. On the ranch side we are investing in our embryo transfer program to bring our customers genetics from some of the most consistent, long-lasting cows in the breed and mating them with the highly maternal power genet- ics that we have secured. This allows our product to not only be of the highest quality but also be diverse in the genetic packages that we are offering. Our commercial cattle herd has been the main focus for decades. We feel we have built our cows into breed leading genetic ma- chines. The commercial bred heifer program has grown to be a source of highly sought after females by the commercial cattlemen from all across the nation. We are extremely proud of the F! Baldie heifers and purebred commercial heifers that we supply our cus- tomers with year in and year out. We also utilize our own commer- cial cows in our extensive embryo program.

We also operate an on-farm feedlot that we background all our calves in. We will sell our program calves through the Northern Livestock sale in January and deliver later that month. We have been blessed that buyers fight for the right to own our calves, and this reflects in the sale topping prices realized. This confirms that breed leading genetics do pay. We will take all our late April, May and June born calves to finish in our feedlot. Marketing them through all natural programs. We raise all our own feedstuffs for our cattle and feedlot on our ranch. Raising corn for silage and grain. Our self-sufficiency extends to our farming practices also where we seed, spray, and harvest all our own crops. Putting up enough forage to carry us through the year and hopefully into the next. Planting cover crops and grazing our cow herd well into the fall and winter to help alleviate high feeding costs. We are a family operation, but we do rely on neighbors for extra help throughout the year. Without this dedication all of this would not be possible.
