Measures R and M have passed and paved the way for billions in new infrastructure and transit all across L.A. County. “My dad showed through his example that it’s about making clear to the voters how we’re delivering results for them,” Janice Hahn said. “And that is my focus as Board Chair: that we deliver for our constituents, so they see that their investments are paying off in safer, cleaner, more convenient transit.” Looking to the future, she eagerly awaits the opening of the transit connection to LAX in the next year, and the planning and construction of the Southeast Gateway light rail line from Union Station to Artesia and the Eastside Phase 2 extension to Whittier over the next 10 years. And she says Los Angeles will be ready for all the upcoming major sporting events in Los Angeles. “We want the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games to be ‘transit-first’ in which the best and easiest way to get to and from venues across the County is any one of our buses or trains. The Foothill Gold Line is extending LA County’s Metro A Line light rail system to the cities of Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, Pomona, Claremont and Montclair – and is being built in segments. The four-station Glendora to Pomona segment reached substantial completion in early-January 2025 and is being turned over to Metro, with passenger service anticipated to begin in Summer 2025. The design-builder for the two-station Pomona to Montclair segment is expected to be hired in Spring 2025, with groundbreaking anticipated later in the fall. Construction will take approximately five years.
