THE NEED TO SUPPORT OUR NATION’S IMMIGRANTS DEFENDING THE DEFENSELESS
The people who risk everything to pursue their dreams in the land of opportunity deserve the chance to be successful. Because we believe in their opportunities, we defend the dreams of defenseless immigrants. The addition of immigration as an official practice area for us came a little over a year ago. We entered the field when we saw the need for immigrant representation in our community. We feel a great sense of accomplishment when we represent those seeking asylum and businesses attempting to come and operate here in the U.S. So many of our clients have immigration issues, so we have made it one of the focus areas so we can help a more significant number of people. One group especially in need of legal support are the children in America with one parent because their other parent has either abandoned them or remained behind in their home nation. In these cases, our goal is to help them achieve legal status in our country. We have also been able to help migrant youth who, in many cases, were toddlers when they came here. Because they were so young, they became fully integrated into America. This is the only place and home they know. So, one of the best feelings is helping them attain legal status. We also face challenges in the process of pursuing legal status for our clients but work with the immigration court and the local and state family court to get an official declaration when a
child has been abandoned. We have successfully helped several people secure that.
In so many cases, people have come to the U.S. just seeking to help their families. They see a life of opportunity here. When it comes down to it, we all do what is necessary to take care of our families — and we see it as our job to support them in that pursuit.
