There is no end to new versions of old works. Language changes, and this makes them advis able. One good example is seen in the two ver sions of this passage (one from a version of 1842 and this one): "Wherefore at length he brake his mind to his wife and children"; which comes out as follows in the new translation: "At length he began to tell his wife and chil dren." THE OMISSION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT FROM REINHOLD NIEBUHR'S THEOLOGY by Rachel H. King. 209 pages; cloth; Philosophical Library, New York; $5.75. The lack of such a vital in gredient in one's theological system is bound to throw the whole into distortion, and the au thor shows how in many ways this occurs in the writings of Niebuhr, revealing many contradic tions as evidenced by a section on parallel quota tions from different works of this theologian. Lewis to be the twentieth century's foremost Christian author. This book is a good introduction to the man and his‘ thought. He himself claimed that most of his book were evangelistic, but this is to be found as an in direct force, emerging from a broad and varied range of material and treatment. THE BASIS OF CHRISTIAN FAITH by Floyd E. Hamilton, xv, 364 pages; cloth; Harper & Row, New York; $5.00. This is the fourth revised and enlarged edition of one of the most useful of the modern works on Christian apologetics. The reasonableness of supernaturalism, the unity of the Bible* its trustworthiness and authenticity, the resurrection of Christ and the validity of prophecy, are among the topics discussed.
