Tips to un-trap yourself • What would you say to a friend if they were thinking this way? • What evidence do I have to support this thought? • Are there aspects of this situation that I am not seeing? • Talk to someone – sharing these thoughts can take away their power • B e kind to yourself. Our thoughts can push us around, so it’s important to look after ourselves. • Distract yourself or do something relaxing and fun! • Remember, your thoughts are not you! Positive self-talk One way to challenge our thinking traps is to use positive self-talk. What are some positive self-talk statements you can use? ‘’I did well in class today”; “It felt good to make my friend laugh”; “It is okay to feel nervous.” 1. • Is it realistic to hold myself to these standards? • What are more positive possible outcomes?
