HEARTWARMING HOLIDAY MOVIE MAGIC

Check Out Our Team’s Most-Loved Holiday Movies

Gone are the days of long winter breaks and endless movie marathons. Yet, these special holiday movies always bring back that magical Christmas cheer. This year, I wanted to share our team’s favorite holiday movies with you. I’m sure you’ll see some of your own favorites here, too: WHO DOESN’T LOVE ‘THE GRINCH’? Plenty of our team are big fans of the grumpy green recluse. While any of the Grinch movies are my favorites for the season, Lilia and Jacky grew up loving the original animated classic. Jacky says, “I love watching ‘The Grinch’ because when my sister and I were younger, we watched the original animated TV movie nonstop during our long Christmas break. It was one of those movies the cable channels constantly played, and we never missed it when it came on.” ANIMATED HOLIDAY CLASSICS Another animated classic is Sarah’s favorite, “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town” (1970). For Sarah, it’s a family tradition. “We would watch this movie as a family every year with some hot chocolate! We still watch it every year, and we are sharing this tradition with my nieces!” Meanwhile, Cristina’s holiday go-to is the heartwarming 1982 movie “The Snowman.” Following the adventures of a boy and his snowman that comes to life, the short film has no dialogue at all. “I watch it every year to soak up the nostalgia. It always

brings me back to my childhood; now, I get to share it with my daughter!

As for Elizabeth, “A Charlie Brown Christmas” is her ultimate holiday movie. It’s the first holiday movie she can remember watching! “I have always loved watching this with my family, especially my brother. Now, I have two nephews and hope to pass down the tradition and watch it with them in the coming holidays!” HEARTWARMING HOLIDAY DRAMAS Holiday dramadies bring laughter, tears, and joy. For Eurika, her favorite holiday dramedy is “The Best Man Holiday.” She shares, “I watch it every year because it’s simply entertaining, and it has a wonderful cast with great actors!” As for Jacqueline, the holidays aren’t complete without watching “Love Actually.” The heartwarming storylines and incredible cast make it her all-time favorite Holiday movie.

Rosie says, “I love Will Ferrell’s comedy movies, and this movie never gets old for me. My daughter, Evelyn, and I love watching it every year.” For Rena, “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” are all her family needs for the holidays. “Every time we watch it, my kids laugh hysterically — breathtakingly hysterically — and it’s just the best medicine for the soul ever. I could live in those moments with them for eternity.” Did you find any of your favorite films on our team’s movie list? I hope you have a warm and joyful holiday season this year with those you love most. I also can’t wait to see what 2024 has in store.

HOLIDAY COMEDIES TO KEEP YOU LAUGHING!

Holiday comedies have the whole family laughing ’til their cheeks hurt, and what’s better than that? James’ family staple is “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” which he grew up watching every Christmas. Of course, this list desperately needs some “Elf” appreciation, which happens to be Rosie and Ashley’s favorite holiday film.

PARENTS LEFT IN THE DARK THIS DAYCARE’S CARELESSNESS CAUSED A CHILD’S INJURY

We take our young children to daycare to be properly supervised. Yet, unfortunately, many daycare employees don’t give kids the care they need, and the result can be dangerous. Our team was able to support Emma* and her family after she sustained a painful injury due to a daycare’s negligence. Last July, Emma, who was only a year old, found herself without adult supervision at daycare. Not only did she experience a severe injury, but the daycare team failed to apply first aid, notify her parents, or report the incident. When Emma’s mom went to pick up her daughter that afternoon, the staff informed her that Emma was “fussy” after she had an incident that morning. Instead of providing any sort of detailed report, the employee explained that Emma had fallen off the playground equipment but had landed on her feet and was supposedly uninjured.

However, Emma’s parents knew that things just weren’t adding up when their daughter continued to cry in pain and hold her arm. When her father confronted the staff for more details about the incident and requested to see their video footage the following morning, the team refused. Her parents were left entirely in the dark about what exactly happened that day. As her pain and discomfort continued, Emma’s parents took her to a pediatrician. Sadly, they discovered that Emma had a fractured arm, which would require a full arm cast that would take over a month to heal. Due to the daycare’s negligence and poor training, Emma was left unsupervised, injured, and distressed, all of which could have been prevented.

she had suffered from consistent pain that disturbed her sleep. The lasting effects, even after she healed, are evident, as Emma is still hesitant to play at parks or other playgrounds. Our team dug further into this facility’s history only to find that this wasn’t the first time they had citations against them for poor conduct. Emma’s incident was the tenth time this daycare center failed to protect their children. Fortunately, The Button Law Firm was able to hold this daycare accountable and brought justice and closure to Emma and her family. With their medical expenses covered, the family can now focus on caring for Emma and ensuring they can all move forward.

TURN RESOLUTIONS INTO REALITY Create a Road Map for Your Best Year Yet

As we gear toward the new year, I’m sure we all have resolutions to achieve in 2024. While having a goal is great, a plan to get there and a process to make it happen are vital. But what exactly does a substantial plan look like? Personally, I prefer to work backward from my goal when creating a plan. I break each goal down into quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily commitments. This process tells me whether something is realistic in a 90- day, 6-month, or yearly period. Also, it tells me what it will take and whether I’m willing to commit to making it happen. If so, what do I need to commit weekly and daily, and is that actually feasible? I’ve found that starting with the most achievable goals first provides a more powerful kickstart to my new year endeavors. Since we are all humans and operate off confidence, we need to set an achievable goal early in our longer process

plan to build confidence. For example, in the first quarter of the year (January through March), choose something that will put you ahead of your yearly goals so you aren’t playing catch-up. This goal-setting concept helps us return from the holidays with vigor and go straight toward our goals, not just ease into them.

While we all get bumped off course, goals and plans plus a strong support system help us stay on track. For 2024, let’s set our goals and go after them. If you couldn’t already tell, this is something that I’m passionate about. If you need help mapping these resolutions out, whether business or personal, please reach out!

My other recommendation for setting goals is to write them down and rank them in order of importance, starting with number one being the most vital. Then, cut everything off after number seven. If you can, whittle that down to 3–5 goals and fully commit yourself to knock them out. When you continue to do this each year, you’ll eventually build momentum and confidence that your goals are achievable and even simple. Your willpower to see something through will increase, and you’ll eventually become unstoppable.

NAVIGATE THE AFTERMATH OF A DWI WRECK Essential Steps to Take if You’re a Victim of Drunk Driving

The holidays should be a time of celebration, yet with all the hustle, bustle, and alcoholic beverages, the risk of a car accident is higher than ever. According to research by HelpAdvisor, Texas had one of the most fatal holiday crashes. Even worse, drunk driving apparently caused these crashes in Texas more than in other states. We hope you never have to experience an accident like this. Yet, you should always be prepared and know what to do if it happens. HOW TO TELL WHEN A DRIVER IS IMPAIRED When you identify an impaired driver, you can avoid them and an accident. Some signs to look for on the road include:

• • •

Erratic braking

any signs of alcohol present (i.e., empty bottles in the other driver’s car).

Slow response to traffic signals Driving slower than 10 mph below the speed limit

HOW A DRAM SHOP MAY BE LIABLE Suppose the driver responsible for your accident became intoxicated at a bar or restaurant (also known as a dram shop). In that case, those businesses may be liable for your compensation. If a dram shop has improperly trained staff or is not monitoring its patrons, it can be held responsible, at least partially. If you or someone you know has recently experienced an accident, The Button Law team is here for you. We have a free handbook if you ever find yourself in a car accident. It can be confusing what to do next, but “Your Go-to Guide on What to Do After a Car Wreck” offers all the information you need. Scan the QR code to download the guide today, and call our team if you ever have any questions.

Turning abruptly or illegally Driving into opposing traffic

WHAT TO DO AFTER A WRECK If you find yourself in a wreck due to a drunk driver, you should first check if anyone needs medical attention. Next, call the police, especially if you believe the other driver is impaired — a police officer must file an official report and ensure the driver does not flee the scene.

Another important action you can take is to photograph the scene. Document evidence such as damage to your vehicle, injuries, and
