WHICH UJSSA ACTIVITIES HAVE YOU ENJOYED PARTICIPATING IN THE MOST AND WHY? I enjoy the Suffolk Event. It is a great way to meet more Suffolk breeders and juniors. It is also a great opportunity to learn more about the breed and its benefits. WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT BEING A MEMBER OF UJSSA? The UJSSA is a great opportunity to network with Suffolk producers across the country and be a part of a supportive breed organization. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE THINKING ABOUT JOINING THE UJSSA AND IN RAISING SUFFOLKS? Suffolks are a great breed for young families. The Suffolk breed and its organizations offer up great opportunities for scholarships, and learning opportunities. I also find it very refreshing to be a part of a growing breed that supports its juniors in starting their flocks and finding early success in their projects. MACKENZIE HORNBOSTEL, HOYLETON, ILLINOIS High School Freshman HOW AND WHEN DID YOU FIRST GET INVOLVED AS A MEMBER OF THE UJSSA? I’ve been a member for several years, but I really got involved beyond just registering my animals two years ago when someone I looked up to suggested I join the junior board to meet new people and share my enthusiasm for raising Suffolks. WHICH UJSSA ACTIVITIES HAVE YOU ENJOYED PARTICIPATING IN THE MOST AND WHY? My favorite UJSSA activity is helping with The Event. Leading teams with the younger kids and watching their excitement throughout the program is really enjoyable and rewarding. WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT BEING A MEMBER OF UJSSA? The best part is the amazing support and guidance that we receive to help us learn and grow. Everyone in this organization truly wants the youth to be successful and happily shows their support. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE THINKING ABOUT JOINING THE UJSSA AND IN RAISING SUFFOLKS? Come to The Event in June to meet Suffolk breeders, sit in on the great educational sessions, and experience the family and friends atmosphere that this organization shares.
