Empowering Nurses, Elevating Care: Select Medical and Nightingale’s Transformative Partnership
As one of the largest providers of critical illness recovery and both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, Select Medical is guided by its mission to deliver an exceptional patient care experience that promotes healing and recovery in a compassionate environment.
“Over the years, Select Medical has devoted itself to partnering with education organizations like Nightingale so that we can be a part of the educational fabric of healthcare careers,” said Dr. Darrell Luzzo, Senior Vice President of Workforce Development and Education at Select Medical. Two years ago, Select Medical made workforce development a priority by creating uPLIFT, an initiative designed to expand opportunities for prelicensure nursing students to gain clinical experience by engaging in clinical rotations at Select Medical hospitals.
“By investing in partnerships with nursing schools, we have nearly doubled the number of student nurses in our hospitals in just two years,” said Luzzo. “Our goal is for 100% of our hospitals to offer clinical rotations to nursing students by the end of 2026.” The Select Medical-Nightingale College partnership is one of the first of its kind. After establishing the uPLIFT initiative in central Pennsylvania, where Select Medical is headquartered, the collaboration quickly evolved into a nationwide partnership driven by the shared presence and reach of both organizations across the U.S.
