Mirza Asad Ullah Khan , the famous contemporary Urdu poet who was famous for his extemporaneous literary gestures was once asked by the last Mughal emperor as: Muslims around the world, follow a religious tradition of serving dates at their Ramadan iftar , which is mentioned more than 20 times in the Quran. Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam. Muslims fast as an act of worship, a chance to get closer to Allah, and a way to become more compassionate to those in need. Surah Baqarah Ayah 184. [Fasting for] a limited number of days. So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] – then an equal number of days [are to be made up]. And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] – a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day]. In Madina, the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) also found a large monotheistic community which fasted as an act of piety. Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may attain taqwaa.” (Q2:183) The most honored by Allah amongst you are those best in taqwaa.”(Q 49:13) ..And it is better for you that ye fast, if ye only knew.” (Q 2:184) All over the world , the blessings of Islam are enhanced along with the lively feasts of Sahar and Iftar . People gather to have Sahar and Iftar with their families and friends . Iftar in the Sub-Continent has the yummiest feast especially *Pakooras , Channa Chat ,Dahi Bhalay , Fruit Chaat and the traditional eastern the sparkling red Rooh Afza and Dates .* In the holy month of Ramadan Kareem , Muslims pay Zakat, the third pillar of Islam, an obligatory act upon all qualifying Muslims as it is the undertaking of submitting a set percentage of his or her profitable wealth to charity; to carry out annually the giving of 2.5% of one’s profitable wealth to those in need. A large number of Muslims prefer to pay their zakat specifically during the Holy month of Ramadan due to the sheer amount of rewards and blessings for those who give to charity during the auspicious month. Ramadan Kareem the blessed Holy month which showers the bounties infinitely on everyone ,moreover the generous Zakat system in this month is to maintain the economy to disperse contentment emphatically to head towards an unbiased society of peace and prosperity. And it is better for you that ye fast, if ye only knew." (Q 2:184)
