hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh a man dumb, or deaf, see ing or blind? Is it not I, Jehovah?” Instead of chiding .Moses for his dis obedience and his failure to respond, God simply reminded him through the name Jehovah of His grace and His mercy and His own faithfulness and yet in the face of all this in Exodus 4 verse 13, “And he said 0 Lord, ( and here you have the word Adoruzi) send I pray thee, by the hand of him whom Thou wilt send.” And so we have the names of God. It’s the name Elohim which certainly is the name by which He is known to His own creation as the Creator and then you have the name Jehovah by which God is known. This name which is the sacred name of God that repre sents salvation. Then the word El Elyon which is the most high God, the Mas tership of the Lord. Adonai the name to be obeyed by mortal man and the an gels of glory. But we come to a last one in our study together and this, of course, is the name El Shaddi. When God wanted to assure Abraham who with Sarah his wife as past age by nature to have a child, that he should beget a son of promise, God said in Gen. 17:1, “I am El Shaddi, walk before me and be thou spiritually mature.” The word El means strong and the word shad is a Hebrew word which means rested so that here God is saying to His own servant Abraham I am the strong rested one. I am the nourisher of my own people. I will supply all your needs and in a sense this is the mother aspect of God. The only time this title of God is ever used in the New Testament is in connection with being utterly depen dent upon the Lord. God calls for a life of separation and He begs us to depend upon Him rather than upon worldly organizations. The Scripture makes it very clear that you and I are

to lean heavily upon the Lord as you have in 2nd Corinthians 6:17-19, “and ye shall be my sons and daughters say- eth the Lord God almighty” and there you have the word El Shaddi. Instead of leaning upon the arm of flesh for support El Shaddi is bidding us to lean upon Him for our earthly sustenance. He will never fail to make good His wonderful Word and to uphold His own people, the people of Israel. The Apostle Paul must have been thinking of this aspect of leaning on His heavenly Father when you remem ber he wrote in Philippians 4, verse 19, “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” This same thought must have been surging through his mind as he wrote to the Corinthian assembly “but our sufficiency is of God.” To drive home this truth to our hearts God reveals Himself as El Shad di to all His people as He did to father Abraham. I am the nourisher and the One who is able to meet your every need and this being the case depend upon Me and know that My grace is sufficient for all things. YoU see within the compass of two great verses of the Word of God the writer of the 91st Psalm uses four of the names of God and I wanted to give thgt to you very, very careful ly. Mark it down Psalm 91 verses 1 and 2 and in these two verses every one of these four names of God, dif ferent names, are used. Now notice Psalm 91; “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide (and there you have El Elyon) under the shadow of the Almighty.” There you have the nourishing God and El Shaddi. I will say of the Lord and there you have the word Jehovah which means salvation. He is my refuge and my fortress my God; There you have the word Elohim which is the word of creation in Him will I trust. Isn’t that an amazing thing that God has given us this truth. Oh, that men may come to know Elohim, Jeho vah, and El Shaddi. 29
