tunately, so-called Protestant ministers fall into this group, who have said in effect, “Let us get along with Commu- ism. The world is big enough for peace ful co-existence.” This of course, is the kind of talk which the Kremlin loves. Finally, there are those who see in the Bible the Russian totalitarian state and, in the light of current problems, are aware that God is moving toward a distinct program transpiring in the end times. No scholar of the Lord can read his newspaper and his Bible without coming to the conclusion Peter stated in his Epistle, “The end of all things is at hand!” Some time ago on these programs, we discussed t h e Communist menace. Thousands of copies of those messages were sent out. We talked of the fact that Communism has already captured more than a third of this world’s terri tory and estimates now range to a half of its population. But, contrary to what some people would' think, Communism is not irrestible. Socialism came into prominence when a German Jew, Karl Marx by name, wrote, in conjunction with one Friedrich Engels, “The Communist Manifesto.” It has become the so-called, bi'ble of their atheistic philosophy. Strange isn’t it that the race from which Christ was bom of the flesh also brought forth the founder of Commu nism. And the nation in which the Reformation fires were started, also was the breeding ground for the anti-God system of government. Of course, the world thought little about Marx and Engels until, March 1917 a few thou sand Communists captured control of the Czarist government in only five days. The moving force was revolution, for as Lenin recalled the words of Marx, “Philosophers have explained the w o r l d , but Communism will chaifge the world.” The blueprint which Lenin established was Eastern Europe first, then the Asiatic countries, and then the Americas. World conquest has followed a carefully planned sched ule. Were it not for die Christian’s
hope, it would seem that this evil sys tem were destined for final triumph. Before we see' the place of Russia in the future, it needs to be remembered that Communism has two basic princi ples: atheism and materialism. Karl Marx himself was an atheist long be fore he was a Communist. In the words of Marx, “Man is an animal and noth ing more. He has no spirit, nor yet any soul. As there is no God, he obviously cannot have been made in the image of that which does not exist. There is no special value associated with every individual life.” What a vastly differ ent concept than that of Christianity! You see why the two forms of life are immediately and diametrically op posed to each other. In the Communist Manifesto, the declaration is, “We openly state that our ends can be at tained only by the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions.” Have you ever thought of this fact: While the present strong arm govern ment of Russia is less than half a cen tury old it has brought under her con trol more people than the Christian Church has reached in 2000 years for Christ. While it is true that many of the people in these nations are not Communists, nevertheless the younger generation is b e i n g indoctrinated thoroughly in the tenets of Red think ing. For instance, in 1959, the Uni versity of Atheism in Iran started of fering a specialized six month course with the final definitive statement, Graduates are expected to continue the struggle against religion.” Unlike the Hitlers, the Mussolinis, the Alexan ders, and other dictators of the past, Communism is not merely a form of government, it is even more than a mere economic theory. Nearly a century ago, a publication called The New Gospel” was printed in Russia. It is largely a part of the Marx Manifesto. The writer declares: ‘Brethren, I come to announce unto you a new gospel, which must penetrate to the very ends of the world. The old world must be destroyed and replaced 33
