You see the Israelites o f o ld took God at His W o r d . T h e y sprinkled blood where they were told to put it and on that awful and event ful night when the death angel swept over the land of Egypt, claiming the first bom, the people of Israel were protected and they went forth exactly as God had told them to go. They had no carnal weapons. It was a bold thing for an army of slaves to do but the victory that overcame Egypt for them was their own spiritual faith in the Lord. There was no human strategy. They simply took God at His own Word. This is the victory that over- cometh the world even our faith. There is only one way to come to God and that is on the basis of believing faith in Him for without faith, says the Scripture, it is impossible to please Him. Then as you look a little further in the Old Testament it will be to dis cover the people of Israel had a great faith that overcame in their wilder ness journey around Mt. Sinai. In He brews 11 again in verse 29, “By faith. Israel passed through the Red Sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.” Now by faith in God they were taken across the mighty Red Sea on dry ground but having reached the other side and won the salvation victory, they were largely overcome by the world in their desire for the things of the land of Egypt they had recently left. They began to murmur and com plain, and they yearned for the leeks and onions, the garlic and the cucum bers of the land of bondage, the land called Egypt. God had something vast ly better for them in the land of Canaan. He had a land that flowed with milk and honey but unbelief pre vented them from entering into the land of Palestine. In Egypt they had worked hard and without pay, and now God was making it possible for them to be able to sit under their own vine
and fig tree in the land of Canaan that flowed with milk and honey. You see the wilderness is no place for the peo ple of God. May we ask you if you are a doubt ing Christian? Why are you unwilling to go all out and all the way for the Lord? It is such a pity to see so many "Willie and Papa" "1 should like to die," said Willie, If my papa could die, too, But he said he isn't ready, 'Cause he has so much to do. And my darling sister Nellie Says that I must surely die, And that she and mama— then she stopped, Because it made me cry. Nellie told me, I remember, Once while sitting on her knee, That the angels never weary Watching over her and me: And that if we're good, and mama Told me just the same before, They will let us into heaven When they see us at the door. There will be none but the holy, 1 shall know no more of sin, But I'll see mama and Nellie, 'Cause I know He'll let them in; But I'll have to tell the angel, When I meet him at the door, That he must excuse my papa, 'Cause he couldn't leave the store. Nellie says that maybe I Shall very soon be called away, But if I should go before him, To that world of light and joy, Maybe he'd want to come to heaven, Just to see his tittle boy! of God’s dear people overcome by the world rather than overcoming the world. They are crying for the very things that were a menace to them when they were living spiritually. Why not trust God for our pleasure and for our joy as well as to trust Him for our own provision day by day. Can it not be that you might be tired of wilderness wanderings? Is there no 7 if my dad were only ready, I should like to go today;
