his delight, he found it was the Scriptures complete, such as he had long desired. “You will not burn this book,” he said to his neighbor, “for it is God who is send ing it to me. I will pay you the price you paid, or even more.” Thereafter the Bible was his constant companion. A few days before the old man died, a colpor teur visited Muras, and became acquainted with him. Gracia read to him the 23rd Psalm. “I am just this one whom God is making to lie down in green pastures,” said the old believer. “God is my shep herd. He comforteth my soul. And if I am walking in the valley of the shadow of death I have no fear. The Lord saved me, and He is with me.”— Selected.

The Testimony of a Dying Believer In the Spanish village of Muras there lived until recently an old man of eighty who was converted some thirty years ago through reading the New Testament. A friend lent him the Book in the first in stance and he was so impressed by what he read that, knowing he would have to return it and not knowing where to get another, he set himself to copy as much as he could by hand. He wrote out St. Matthew’s Gospel and then a fellow vil lager told him that he had a Bible which he was about to burn because he was told it was a bad book. “Please bring it to me; I want to examine it,” he said. III. The Servant’s Suffering in the Plan of God. Vs. 10-12. “There are no ‘happen-sos’ in the life of the faithful child of God.” God over rules all things for the good of those who love Him and who are His. Is The Voluntary Suffering of the Servant. V. 10. The entire pleasure of the Lord pros pers in the hands of His Servant. He voluntarily makes His soul an offering for sin. There was no coercion requiring that He suffer for man. His great love, however, impelled Him to lay down His life for man’s redemption, 2. The Results of His Atonement. V. 11. Having laid down His life He rises from the dead and prolongs His days— according to Psa. 21 for ever. He sees results from His sacrifice. He sees a great host of people redeemed by His blood, saved eternally. 3. The Intercession of the Servant. V. 12. : While He is suffering for humanity He makes fervent intercession for those who are executing Him —“and. made interces sion for the transgressors." Because of His great sacrifice God divides Him a portion with the great. Thus the pleasure of the Lord prospers in His hands. It is strange how little use we make of the spiritual blessings which God gives us, but it is stranger still how little use we make of God Himself. Though He is “our own God,” we apply ourselves but little to Him, and ask but little of Him. How seldom do we ask counsel at the hands of the Lord ! How often do we go about our business without seeking His guidance ! In our troubles how con stantly do we strive to bear our burdens ourselves, instead of casting them upon the Lord, that He may sustain us! Tins is not because we may not, for the Lord seems to say, “I am thine, soul, come and make use of Me as thou wilt; thou may- -est freely come to my store, and the oftener the more welcome.” It is our own fault if we make not free with the riches of our God. Then, since thou hast such a Friend, and He invites thee, draw from Him daily. Never want whilst thou hast a God to go to ; never fear or faint whilst thou hast God to help thee ; go to thy treasure and take whatever thou need- est, there is all that thou canst want. Learn the divine skill of making God all things to thee. He can supply thee with all, or, better still, He can be to thee in stead of all. Let me urge thee, then, to make use of thy God. Make use of Him in prayer. Go to Him often, because He is thy God. Oh, wilt thou fail to use so great a privilege? Fly to Him, tell Him all thy wants. Use Him constantly by faith at all times. If some dark provi dence has beclouded thee, use thy God as a “sun” ; if some strong enemy has beset thee, find in Jehovah a “shield,” for He is a sun and a shield to His people. If thou hast lost thy way in the mazes of life, use Him as a “guide,” for He will direct thee. Whatever thou art, and wherever thou art, remember God is just what thou wantest, and just where thou wantest, and that He can do all thou wantest.— Spurgeon. “God, Even Our Own God” Psalm 67:6
