The Face of Christ B y J ohn M ac B eath , M.A.
This new book comes from the presses of Marshall Bros., London, and brings us ten most suggestive and illuminative stud ies in the portrait of Christ. There is a wealth of new illustration running throughout the book. With a deeply rev erent spirit, the author deals with the “re vealing face of Christ” (2 Cor. 4:6), the “attractive face” (Isa. 33:17), the “reso lute face” (Lk. 9:51), the “stern face” (1 Pet. 3:12), the “transfigured face” (Mt. 17:2), the “dishonored face” (Isa. 50:6), the “submissive face” (Mt. 26:39), the “scarred face” (Isa. 53:14), the “ju dicial face” (Rev. 6:16), and the “glori fied face” (Rev. 22:3-4). The book will sell in this country for $1.75. We know of nothing better in the way of comment on the Epistle to the Philip- pians than Dr. Moule’s devotional studies, just issued by Pickering & Ingiis, London. This epistle is a peculiarly precious Scrip ture in itself. Its teachings meet the in most want of the heart. The whole aim of Dr. Moule’s comment is toward edifi cation. It is handled throughout with the firm belief that it is an oracle of God, and the expositor. seeks, above all things, to expound. This book throws a quiet light upon many of the treasures of this apos tolic casket. Teachers of the Word will find it worth special pains to get this, book. The price in U. S. will be $1.75. John Ritchie himself, the publisher of a whole set of books on missionary pio neers, has prepared this volume devoted to heroines of the cross; There are no pages of missionary history more brilliant than those which tell of woman’s work for Christ. She has been considered by many as just the missionary’s wife. Only within comparatively recent times has woman begun to have justice done to her work in the mission field. Mr. Ritchie has done well to bring together these spark ling stories of such women as Mrs, Jud- son of Burma, Mrs.'Thompson of Syria,- Fidelia Fishe in Persia; Mary, Louisa Whateley in Egypt, Mrs. .Gobat in Abys sinia, Mrs. Moffat in South Africa, and several others well known for their noble work. This book is worthy of a wide' reading. Price in U. S; $1.25, — o — Philippian Studies B y D ri H. C. G. M oule Heroines of the Cross B y J ohn R itchie

M oule The writer has compacted in this book of 438 pages what one of the reviewers has called a valuable commentary, a lu minous exposition, a practical exhortation, and a true book of devotion. “Mother Ruth” is encouraging! She is uncompromising—refreshingly so—"but she is cheery about it. She sets before her young readers the joy unutterable of perfect consecration. They are made to feel that it is a thing to be desired, and that it is God’s gift. “Be very sweet about telling them, but be firm,” she counsels a young girl faced with a problem. The reader becomes much interested in each individual as she presents her dif ficulties. The book is a veritable cross- section of the aspiring young life of our country. “Mother Ruth’s” column is sstill running in the Sunday School Times; this volume is a selection of some of the letters of the past few years. Charles Gallaudet Trumbull, the editor of the Sunday School Times, tells us in his excellent foreword that Mother Ruth prays through her answers to these let ters. It is evident. They seem to be wholly Spirit-decided. One invariably marvels at her wisdom, until one recol lects that it is indeed given from above. Read it, girls ! And older folk too ! Published by Bible Institute Colportage Association. Price $1.50. In this latest product of his pen, Dr. Zwemer shares with his readers the ex periences of a lifetime spent in the at mosphere of Islam. He leads the way to many lands, disclosing conditions as they exist today among these interesting people. Thé inadequacy of missionary ef fort on their behalf is pointed out. Atten tion is directed to the liberal trend on the part of the younger element of Moslems. Space is given to a consideration of the place of women in lands that are essen tially Mohammedan. A genuinely in formative feature is the compréhensive glossary following the last chapter. Al together the book is a splendid contribu tion to the' extant literature oh this ab sorbing theme.—Fleming H. Revell Co. Price $4.00. — o — Across the World of Islam B y S amuel M. Z wemer , F. R.
