to it, bursts forth with one great Amen! God Himself says Amen: “for how many soever be the promises of God, in Him is the yea! Wherefore also through Him is the Amen, unto the glory of God.”— Dr. F. B. Meyer. —«— April 3 —"I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me” (Gal. 2:20). I shall never forget the morning that I spent in my church reading an old musty book I had discovered in my library on the subject, “The Higher Christian Life.” As I pored over that little volume, I saw a new light. The Lord Jesus revealed Himself as a living and all-sufficient Pres ence, and I learned for the first time that Christ had not saved us from future peril, and left us to fight the battle of life as best we could; but He who had justified us was waiting to sanctify us, to enter into our spirit, and substitute His strength, His holiness, His joy, His love, His faith, His power, for all our worth lessness, helplessness and nothingness, and make it an actual and living fact. “I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.” It was indeed a new revelation. Throw ing myself at the feet of the glorious Master, I claimed the mighty promise— “I will dwell in you and walk in you.” Across the threshold of my spirit there passed a Being as real as the Christ who came to John on Patmos, and from that moment, a new secret has been the charm and glory and strength of my life and testimony. Whatever has been accom plished in these forty years, in personal victory or public service, I count it a great privilege to.say—“Not I, but Christ.” I have learned the secret—“I can do all things through Christ which strengthen- eth me.”— Dr. A. B. Simpson. —o— April 4—“I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28). How many who call themselves Chris tians are true Marthas, serving Christ, but feeling the yoke to chafe, and the burden to weigh them—perhaps preaching to others the Gospel of rest and peace, and themselves knowing little of its expe rience and blessedness—like the camels of the desert, which carry their treasures of corn and sweet spices to others, and them selves feed on the prickly herbs. Ah, you are too much upon your feet! Cease for awhile from your own works, and let God work in you. Wait in His presence. Let His words take hold of you and His love enthuse you; so will you find rest amid your toil, calmness amid the strife, and you will prove that the fret and fever of life will all disappear at the touch of the living Christ.— The Rev. Henry Burton, d , d . _ 0- April 5— “He blessed him there” (Gen. 32:29). ' There is a whole series of rooms, one opening out into the other, to be passed through before the point suggested in this message is finally reached. There is first the place of solitude. Jacob was “left alone.” All of us need to be brought into this room and. to know what solitude with God really means; all must meet Him alone if they want to be really blessed. It may be a place of darkness, a place of apprehension, a place of con troversy, but it must be with God. One of the great principles underlying Scrip ture is that God is feeling His way to each heart; and the first step towards the goal to which He is leading us, is when He re

veals to us the nearness of Jesus Christ. Jacob had been praying—the first prayer recorded in Scripture—he had been kneel ing upon the promises, saying to his Cov enant God: “Thou saidst.” Jacob said it when he was traveling to meet Esau with four hundred armed men, the brother from whom he had been separated for twenty-five years. Now he is on the verge of meeting him again, and he is left alone. Christ is waiting in every solitude, in every lonely place, in every darkness to meet us. He is so resolved to meet with us that He prepares the solitude, and then waits in it to meet us. Will you not let Him meet you there today?— Rev. C. A. Fox. __ q _ April 6— “The ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy” (Isa. 35:10). It has pleased the Lord to teach me a truth, the benefit of which I have not lost for a large number of years. The point is this: I saw more clearly than ever that the first great and primary business to which I ought to attend every day was to have my soul happy in the Lord. The first thing to be concerned about was not how much I might serve the Lord, or how I might glorify the Lord, but how I might get my soul into a happy state, and how my inner man might be nourished.— George Muller.
