Growing Into a New Year
Take organizing to the next level and be proactive with scheduling appointments and meetings as far out as you can. Schedule your routine dentist and doctor’s visits for the year, as their schedules will be booked soon. If you have a big New Year’s resolution, outline specific goals on a timeline throughout the year. Try to be punctual, too. For example, if you have a meeting at 9 a.m., be there five minutes early instead. I swear, everyone in Florida is always five to 10 minutes late! They must be running on SFT (Standard Florida Time). Having a community focus will also help improve your well-being. It enables you to lean on your loved ones when you need them most. Share your New Year’s resolution with your family as they will encourage you throughout the entire process. Donate gently used clothing that doesn’t fit or you don’t wear anymore to your local Goodwill store. It’s a great way to feel refreshed from the previous year and is also a great tax write-off. I just went through my closet and filled an entire duffel bag.
The start of a new year is a great time to reflect on your overall well-being, and at this time, many people choose to focus on their physical and mental health in particular. Here are a fewways to ensure you’re taking care of yourself in 2020. If you get less than seven hours of sleep, it’s time to consider your sleeping habits. Stress is a leading factor for sleep deprivation, so to prevent this, practice mindful breathing to clear your mind for the night. If you need background noise to help you fall asleep, white noise apps help supply noise that isn’t distracting. If you need complete silence, noise- canceling headphones will drown out anything that keeps you up. Organizing is also a great way to set you up for success in 2020. I have every document I own organized on the cloud. This way, through various folders and structures, I have everything at my fingertips, and I know exactly where things are. To start, break down your files into basic categories and go from there.
Evaluating your mindset is also a great way to increase well-being. It’s easier said than done, so employ if/then planning into your daily mindset. This way, even when you’re frustrated with a situation, you force yourself to look at the situation and provide a solution to handle it. If/ then planning decreases the amount of anxiety you feel about a life event. Maintaining positivity is another way to improve your mindset. When you feel annoyed or worried about something, take five minutes to think about the silver linings. This allows you to see not only that the glass is half full, but also that you even have a glass in the first place. Ease into these tips and don’t make any drastic changes. Resolutions typically don’t work out well for those who charge in headfirst. How are you trying to improve yourself in the new year? Let me know next time you’re in the office, as I’m always looking for ways to better myself as well! Have a happy new year, everyone. Having a community focus will also help improve your well- being. It enables you to lean on your loved ones when you need them most.”
