THE KING’S BUSINESS

ing a hammer he struck it one blow when, to his amazement, from the shattered image there rained down at hig feet a shower ot gems, pearls and diamonds—treasures of fabulous value which had been hidden with in it! Had he spared the idol he would have lost all this wealth. Let us not spare our idols. It is to our interest to demolish them. If we shatter them there will rain about our hearts the very treasure of heaven, the gifts and graces of the Holy Spirit; but if we spare our idols we shall miss riches unsearchable .—John McNeil. “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creatur^.” 2 Cor. 5:17. 1. His judgments are new. His judg ment of himself, of God, of the purpose of life, of happiness is formed by truth. 2. His purposes are new. His great purpose is to serve God. Every other pur pose is subservient to this one grand mas ter-purpose of his being new. 3. His desires are new. “Whom have I in heaven but thee?” etc. 4. His conversation is new. He spake of things above. 5. His actions are new. He walks in Christ. D. L. Moody gives this illustration of the power of prayer: While in Edinburgh, a man was pointed out to me by a friend, who said: “That man is chairman of the Edinburgh Infidel Club.” I went and sat beside him and said, “My friend, I am glad to see you in our meeting. Are you c o n cerned about your welfare?” “I do not believe in any hereafter.” “Well, just get down on your knees and let me pray for you.” “No, I do not believe in prayer.” I knelt beside him as he sat, and prayed. He made a great deal of sport of it. A year after I met him again. I took him by the hand and said: .“Hasn’t God an swered my prayer yet?” There is no God. If you believe in one who answers prayer, try your hand on me.” “Well, a great many are now praying for

you, and God’s time will come, and I be lieve you will be saved yet.” Six months ago I got a letter from a leading barrister in Edinburgh telling me my infidel friend had come to Christ, and that seventeen of his club men had followed Lis example. I did not know how God would answer prayer, but I knew he would answer. Let us come boldly to God. The following is an extract from a letter from a girl attending the University of California and evidences the subtle snares to which our young people are being subjected: “In Logic the professor is trying his best to make Us see that our God is within us, that we ourselves are the Supreme Being, and says that if he can make us see, this he will feel he has accomplished much in this course;. He said that a God to whom we knelt in worship wasn’t worth a thing to us. We must realize that the Truth we are seeking must come from within and the only Perfect Knowledge we can have is our ability to perceive Truth. His phi losophy is beautiful and attractive and will lure many, away from their former Christian training. In Palaeontology the professor spent more than a whole hour reading the first two chapters of Genesis, attacking it from every side. He tried to show us how there were two accounts in these two chapters which conflicted and just how it disagreed with the 'Book of the Rocks.’ His last statement on the subject was ‘Can we ac cept this book (Bible) or the “Book of the Rocks,” which is not inspired unto us, but given us directly from the Creator to go to and study, and which has not been changed nor tampered with by translations and biased opinions?’ Four of us girls found ourselves a little confused, although we knew he was wrong. We talked it over and went to Dr. McAfee. He is more of a philosopher than the professor is and those things seem trivial and absurd now. I don’t knpw what we would do without Dr. McAfee.”
