While discussing health and wellness, Lori speaks about empowering the senior community through local long-term care: “We have had an experienced growth in our population, and have not accommodated the long-term care for our senior citizens who have built this community. They need our support now.” Concentrated on climate and environment, Lori expresses her appreciation for the initiatives which are growing to fruition: “We are very grateful for the land donations and for rehabilitating the land that we have -- working with Kettle Creek Conservation Authority, and the opening of Deer Ridge Conservation Area last year being a motivator to keep laser focus on getting things done.” “With water and shoreline management, there is much to do and the work is ongoing. I am certainly proud of the staff and the support that we have around the council table in order to ensure that this work continues.” “In regard to the Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update, we need a community centre with an aquatic facility to support
the local community. I am dedicated to making this happen, and there is momentum.” Prompted to reflect on the ‘highest of highs’ throughout her career, Lori earnestly reveals, “I have yet to see that. There is so much that I want to do. I am inspired by the people of our community. I can see broader smiles and happier people, which is lifting. I am still looking forward to having our housing strengthened. As well, I am passionate about education and learning opportunities. I value the Library as a great resource for our community.” Through her work, Lori is motivated to voice what community members and local residents are communicating. There are seven generations of Lori’s family connected to the community. Having grown up and raised her three children in St. Thomas, Lori is determined to participate in building a bright future in the place which she calls ‘home’.
As a councillor, one of Lori’s roles is as Chair of the Health Recruitment Partnership. Seen here with the 2024 recipients of the annual scholarship to encourage local medical students to come home and practise here in St. Thomas/Elgin.
