Holy Angels’ Catholic Church Presents: Harvest Gala by Peri Hayes Holy Angels’ Catholic Church is hosting their Harvest Gala this November 1st at St. Anne’s Centre. Their Resident Historian, Blair Ferguson, offers history about the Church: “Holy Angels’ as it stands today, was built in 1911. The stained glass windows were manufactured in Bavaria and sent to St. Thomas [with a piece having been included in the World’s Fair]. The Sisters of St. Joseph’s convent and school were originally built in 1879, and had many additions over the years. There is still an original primary classroom in the basement of Holy Angels’, and the lower sacristy is also an old classroom from St. Joes. The school and the convent were demolished in 1994 when the new and large St. Joseph’s Catholic High School was built in the East end of the City.” Once moving to St. Thomas in 1995, Holy Angels’ became Maureen Bedek’s home parish. She passionately voices, “We are so grateful for this community, and want to celebrate the faith and joy that we have.” As Chair of the Fundraising Committee and Chair of the Gala, Maureen details, “Blair and I sit on the Holy Angels’ Fundraising Committee, which started in the fall of 2024. We started off with a $500,000 deficit and by May of 2025, the debt was paid. During a meeting with the Holy Angels’ Catholic Women’s League, we discussed hosting a celebration fundraiser. The Fundraising Committee supported this idea, and then a Planning Committee was set up. This is a fundraiser for the community, and for other parishes to join us and care for our spiritual home.” Along with Maureen, the Planning Committee includes the following members: Erin Galbraith, Mary-Ellen Hicknell, Fr.

John Johnson, Jenn Lewis, Cheryl Muma, Eva Patterson, Sharon Smith, Barbara Siebenmorgen, Tony Chacko Var- ghese and Melissa Ward.
