Chicago TAPPI Again Hosts What’s New In Corrugated

• Dave Swedes of Valco Melton, who presented Clear- vision Printcheck, which inspects the integrity and ac- curacy of printing and registration on rotary die-cutters and flexo folder-gluers.

The Chicago TAPPI Local Section once again hosted its popular What’s New in Corrugated Event on February 6 at the Oak Brook Marriott in Oak Brook, Illinois. What’s New offered more than 75 attendees an exclusive venue in which to learn about new technologies, products, and ser- vices in an intimate and relaxed environment. The enlight- ening and informative event was open to all converters and suppliers with topics focusing on emerging technolo- gy and operational offerings in the corrugated industry in North America and around the world. The program began with a social hour featuring an open bar and hors d'oeuvres, followed by a delicious buf- fet dinner and a series of eight-minute knowledge-packed presentations that included: • Spencer Bird of JB Machinery, who presented JB’s Auto Dryer Control (ADC), a new feature of the Color Dry XL30 IR Dryers that eliminates over-consumption of energy due to over-powering IR drying systems. ADC helps to eliminate guesswork in selecting proper power settings for optimum drying efficiency. • Dylan Baker-Flynn of Geo M. Martin, who presented Smart Shingle, which allows operators to reduce or eliminate feed interrupt time at stack change on rotary dies cutters running up to 15,000 sheets/hr.

• Ryan Clark of Kolbus America, who presented BX Mo- tion, an all-in-one, heavy-duty short-run box maker for box plants looking to expand capabilitiesthroughput. • Chuck Slingerland of Barberan S.A./FujiFilm, who pre- sented the HS6000, a single-pass digital printer devel- oped for retail packaging, display, and signage markets that previously relied on multi-pass devices for high- end graphic reproduction. The presenters at Chicago TAPPI’s What’s New Event were, from left, Chuck Slingerland of Barberan S.A./FujiFilm, Ryan Clark of Kolbus America, Dave Swedes of Valco Melton, Dylan Baker-Flynn of Geo M. Martin, Spencer Bird of JB Machinery and moderator Ed Stuczynski of Menasha Packaging.

Do you need printed sheets? We have your answer.. Introducing Heartland’s ColorCorr. This is “flexo-printing in the round”. On our corrugator we can print up to 109” wide. The advantage is that we can print the equivalent of ½ roll at a time and not be required to keep several rolls of very expensive preprinted paper on the floor. Much less waste and risk. In continual print mode, we use either laser-engraved rubber rolls or solid rubber rolls to print a “flood coat” or a repeating pattern. If we are printing a repeating pattern, we can run a two-color design on the paper. Customers have found that running sheets we print can allow them to run a lighter-grade due to reduced caliper loss, and in some cases eliminate one or more machine passes.
