NEWS FROM SUMO SAM March 2021 QuickSumoPestControl.com

Think back to your youth: There’s probably some crazy or even “normal” thing you did that would rarely work out in modern times. For me, that’s the road trip my brother, Bruce, and I took in 1993. After graduating high school, I was 17 years old and Bruce was 16. I asked my parents if we could do a road trip together, not dissimilar from the road trip we took to Alaska only a couple years before then. This time, though, we wanted to go up to Washington, D.C. Luckily, we were taking a family trip to Disney World around the same time, so our parents drove with our younger siblings, while Bruce and I drove in our own car a whole day later. It was a three-day drive, so we were a little giddy that we caught up and passed them the next day. REMEMBER ROAD TRIPS IN THE ’90S? No GPS, No Cellphone, and a Ton of Rural Roads

My brother and I mostly slept in the

car and cleaned up in McDonald’s bathrooms so we didn’t look like a mess. Yet, we were pretty happy with that.

And eventually, we stayed with the same aunt and uncle from Alaska because they moved to West Virginia.

After our time at Disney World, Bruce and I went on our own merry adventure — and it amazes me that my parents agreed to that.

It was awesome. We took pictures at every state line, toured Washington, D.C., and really got to spread our wings. It did help us realize that we loved living in Texas and probably nowhere else. ... But it was still a fun time! I still laugh when I think about how naive we were. We ended up being very lucky. I have to admire my parents for letting us have that experience, considering they had no idea where we were and no way of contacting us. Now that my daughter is going on her own adventure as a missionary in Idaho, I guess it’s my turn to be fearless about my kids’ adventures. I’m very proud and excited to hear how it’ll go for her.

These days, I make sure my kids have a cellphone and Google Maps app before going to the grocery store! Back in 1993, we didn’t have GPS, much less a cellphone. And our map books (remember those?) didn’t cover all the farmer roads in the rural areas we’d drive on. We got lost a few times. There were times we’d be stuck behind a tractor for hours, or follow a road until we’d arrive at a street that was actually on our map. Luckily, getting lost was the worst it got. A lot more could have gone wrong. We didn’t have a lot of money — only 200 bucks — and our station wagon was 10 years old. We didn’t have a credit card to afford repairs if something happened. Plus, we obviously didn’t have money for hotel stays.

LAUGH MORE, AGE LESS

Why Laughter Is Good for You

As we age, we’re told to wear sunscreen, eat more vegetables, take vitamins, and even walk more — all in hope that our internal clocks will slow down and we will age better. But something as simple as laughter could actually be one of the easiest ways to slow the ticking clock of aging. Scientists have long known that laughter can be therapeutic and help us live longer. It has been shown to reduce wear and tear on our bodies and improve our relationships. A Norwegian study found that those who prioritized humor were more likely to live past 70 than those who didn’t laugh often. At a biological level, laughter can reduce tension in your muscles and activate a powerful stress-relief response from your brain by releasing dopamine. Just one chuckle may even improve your breathing and heart function! In fact, laughing can work wonders for the heart. One study showed that laughter therapy helped reduce the blood pressure and cholesterol levels of its participants. Their blood circulation improved, too. Studies have also found that regular laughter can help strengthen your immune system, and it has long-term benefits for those with respiratory conditions.

In addition to your body, laughter is also

good for your social life. (And we don’t mean that people will want to spend time with you if you have all the good jokes!) Throughout history, laughter has been an

evolutionary sign of understanding. When there are language barriers, laughing together can create camaraderie and a tighter bond between people of different cultures. The

dopamine release that comes with laughter aids in stress relief and creates powerful memories that can improve your mood and strengthen friendships.

Of course, laughter has its downfalls, too. Laughing at someone else’s expense is detrimental to their health and can harm your relationships. So, stick to light jokes and actively seek shows, cartoons, or people who make you laugh. You’ll feel good, and your body will be pretty happy, too.

IS YOUR HONEYBEE PROBLEM NOT SO SWEET?

MEET OUR HUMANE BEE REMOVAL SERVICE

Here at QuickSumo, we believe in saving the bees. But if you hear buzzing or see honeybees going in and out of a structure, you don’t have to live with it to save them. It is possible to remove and relocate the honeybee hive to a new home where it can thrive. WE REMOVE AND RE-HOME HONEYBEES Honeybees pollinate about 80% of the flowering crops in the U.S. This means about one-third of the American diet comes directly or indirectly from honeybee pollination. According to the American Beekeeping Federation, they contribute almost $20 billion to U.S. crop production. They pollinate more than flowers. They also pollinate carrot seeds, almonds, pears, apples, cherries, and blueberries. These crops depend on bees for 90% of their survival (100% for almonds!).

We can do an evaluation to identify what bees you have and provide solutions based on the situation. With honeybees, our goal is to remove and relocate!

WHY HIRE QUICKSUMO?

This is one of our favorite services because we know how important honeybees are to the U.S. We put in the extra work to safely remove and relocate the hive to a more suitable place without using pesticides. This will keep your family, home, and pets safe as well. Best of all, when you work with QuickSumo, you’ll get a team you can trust and that works fast. We’ll also outline the process so you know you’re getting your money’s worth.
