A History of Service to Jacksonville, FL Families River Region Human Services, Inc. (RRHS). began in 1972 as a private, non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, to provide substance abuse prevention, intervention, and treatment services for residents of Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau, and St. Johns Counties. RRHS has been licensed by the Department of Children and Family Services since it started, and is registered with the Secretary of State and the City of Jacksonville as a charitable organization. River Region provides services for children, teens and adults. For mothers with newborns, we provide safe housing where they receive counseling and services to help them successfully transition back into the community. We provide extensive prevention services for youth, including trained counselors in Duval County schools. Counseling services for at-risk teens are provided at local schools as well as River Region locations. HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, counseling and referral services are provided throughout the community. Substance abuse and mental health treatment services include outpatient,residential, day/night, medication, case management and continuing care services. Other services include supportive and transitional housing, an employee assistance program, corrections and court service programs, parenting and anger management classes and DUI offender programs. We work together with other community agencies and healthcare providers to care for people in need. River Region has had seven CARF accredited programs since 1993. Each re-accreditation period, we have been given the highest level of accreditation achievable. Nationally Recognized Programs River Region has a Continuous Quality Improvement program that has been honored by the nationally-recognized Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, STAR-SI, and NIATx programs. In 1998, RRHS was recognized at the federal level for developing a program that later became a national AIDS Outreach model. RRHS also received the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association’s Best Practices Award in 2004. Most notably, in 2008, Ryan White clients in the city rated RRHS at the top in cultural competency, ease in using services, and effectiveness. for more than 40 years in the Jacksonville, FL region River Region Human Services has been rebuilding families and restoring communities
