He That Hath An Ear... (Part 2)

ness to “forgive one an- other, even as God for Christ’s sake hath for- given you.” (Ephesians 4:32). Revelation 2:15-17, “So thou hast also them that hold the doc- trine of the Nico- laitians, which thing I hate (which was also a problem at Ephesus, which does not state what it was, but is al- most certain to be re- ferring to the apostles in Revelation 2:2 that

Again, John writes in Reve- lation 2:12-17 to the church in Pergamos, “These things saith He which hath the sharp sword with two edges (to rightly divide the truth); I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou

holdest fast My name, and hast not denied My faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.” “But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Bal- aam, who taught Balac to cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.” The doc- trine of Balaam was that of compromise with the immoral and ungodly lifestyle of the pagans, in a similar fashion as to how Balaam had influenced the Israelites to take Moabite wives in Numbers 31:15-16, turning their heart away from their God and Creator. Are we any different by doing the same today in our compromises? What is a stumbling block? It is something done, or said to cause another to stumble and fall. We all tend to avoid this subject, because most stum- blingblocks are not done deliberately to make one fall. But what do the Scriptures say about our re- sponsibility in this matter? Several verses come to mind; Leviticus 19:14, “Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind (ei- ther physically or spiritually), but shall fear thy God.” One of God’s common sense instructions for daily living. The Apostle Paul in Romans 14:11-13, 19, 21; “For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall con- fess to God. (So) let us not therefore judge one an- other any more: but judge this rather (first) that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way… (For) it is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.” In I Thessalonians 5:14-28, Paul lists several ex- hortations including the one in verse 22 which says to “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” Why? So as to not cause a weaker one to stumble! Our daily walk is so determined by how the first and greatest commandments define and temper all the rest of God’s commandments: Not just as set of rules, without love, compassion, mercy, and our willing-

thou hast (the word of my patience and your re- pentance), that no man take thy crown. Him that overcometh I will make a pillar in the temple of my God… and the name of the city of my God, which is New Jerusalem… from my God: and I will write upon him My new name. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto (all) the churches.” The Apostle Paul describes faithful Christians in I Timothy 1:5-16 that are one with Christ, keeping all the law and the prophets being defined by the first and greatest of the commandments in Matthew 22:37-40. For the end of these two great- est commandments “is, charity (26-‘agape’ perfect love) out of a pure heart, and a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned (without hypocrisy, emulat- ing the divine nature of God). From which some (shifting their faith) have turned aside unto vain (conversations): Desiring to be teachers of the law: understanding neither what they say, nor where of they affirm… (Verses 10-11). And if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine (Scripture based); according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust… (Verses 14-16) And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love (26- perfect love) which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I ob- tained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering (as one emulates the divine nature of God), for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on Him to life everlasting.”

are not.) Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth, (rightly dividing that which is truth). He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto (all) the churches; To him that over- cometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna (the bread of life), and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.” John writes to the church in Philadelphia (Reve- lation 3:7-13), “These things sayeth He that is holy, He that is true, He that hath the key of David, He that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;” Christ, the Creator of all things, and King of kings. “I know thy works (as He said to every one of the seven churches); I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it (until I shut it): for thou hast a little strength (to yet continue), and hast kept my word (not just some, but every word, Matthew 4:4) and hast not denied my name (by shifting your faith to other gods). Behold I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews (yet even today, many say they are Christians), and are not, but do lie (taking the Lord’s name in vain); behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I love thee. Because thou hast kept the word of my patience.” (which is, “longsuf- fering to us-ward, not willing that any should per- ish, but that all should come to repentance, I Peter 3:9). “I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation (3986-to be led astray), which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
