III. MONEY: ITS OPPORTUNITY. Timothy was admonished, “Stir up the gift of God, which is iri thee” (2 Tim. 1:6)", lest there should be a weakening of it. Tt is by use that the power to use grows. New opportuni ties will come to us with our improve ment of those which we already have. As we contribute money for His serv ice, we are giving that which He has entrusted to us. It has been said truly that the important thing is, “Not hoto much' of rhy money do I give to God, but how much of God’s money do I keep for myself?” As we give we liave His promise, “Give, and it shall be given unto you.” One can, never be impoverished by giving to the Lord. “There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth” (Frov. 11:24). Our Lord is coming back for us and we must give account of our stewardship. How wonderful it will be to hear the Lord say when He returns, “Thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things” (Matt.‘ 25:23)! Heaven shall have new opportunities of service for those who have "made faithful use of earthly opportunities. When» we use our every talent on earth, our use fulness increases, and heaven’s ex perience will be one of exalted, joyful honor. Conclusion The love of God and the apprecia tion of His grace inspire us with de votion to Himself and impel us to be come His faithful servants. How do our lives testify to this fact? Would the money in our purses give the same verdict? “Once a penny and a dollar met in a man’s pocket. The dollar turned up his nose at the penny and said, ‘I am worth one hundred of you.’ . “ ‘Yes,’ said the penny, ‘but even at that I am a good bit better than you jre. I go- every Sunday to church and Sunday-school both, and you never get to either one.’ ”— Twenty- five Hundred Best Modern Illustra tions, by Hallock. DECEMBER 12, 1943 WHY GROWING CHRISTIANS USE THE BIBLE There is a profitable analogy to be made between a man’s physical re quirements and his spiritual needs. Growing, healthy people eat heartily because their bodies crave food. Loss of appetite is a symptom of illness. This is true of a Christian ^n the spiritual realm. We need a healthy, hearty appetite for the Bread of Life. We should say like Job of old, “I have M a t t h e w 13:1-9, 18-23 By Harold A. Johanson Introduction

esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food” (Job 23:12). How careful we are to be on hand at mealtime! But are we as- careful to feed ourselves spiritually? We are being taught much these days concerning the need of vitamins and special diets. Likewise, to- “ be strong in the Lord,” we must be* alert to spiritual vitamins. For Those Who Have Topics I. CHRISTIANS ARE BEGOTTEN BY THE BIBLE, The Spirit of God uses the Word of God to make us sons of God. A Christian can no more deny the source and inspiration of the Bible' than he can deny the fact and reality of his own mother. The .Word of God and the child of 'God are inseparable. The Bible Is life-giving. We are “ born again by the word of God” (1 Pet. 1:23; cf. Jas. 1:18). H. CHRISTIANS ARE FED BY THE BIBLE. “Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the -joy and rejoicing of mine heart” (Jer. 15:16). These verses suggest three steps In relation to the Bible. First, “Thy words were found.’’ Every Christian has come in contact with the Bible. It is one of our great national herit ages. Second, ' “and I did eat them.” Not all Christians who possess or carry a Bible use it. It is not how much Bible truth we possess, but how much of that truth possesses us that makes for spiritual growth. Third, “thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart.” The Bible can and does give a joy and delight that is not found anywhere else (1 John 1:4; Psa. 119:14-16, 47, 103). HI. CHRISTIANS GROW BY THE BIBLE. “As newborn babes, desire the sin cere [pure] milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (1 Pet. 2:2). The Bible test for spirituality is measured by our relationship to the Word of God. (Read carefully 1 Corin thians 2:14 to 3:8.) What is your spiritual height? What is your capac ity for*the Word of God? IV. CHRISTIANS ARE CLEANSED BY THE BIBLE. “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you”
