George L. Hill, Jr. 2002-2023 Exercise Sports Science major and Collegiate Athlete

Michael L. Labat, Sr. 1942-2023 Pharmacist and Pharmaceutical Sales Professional By Beaufort-Jasper-Hilton Head (SC) Alumni

G eorge L. Hill, Jr. (Theta Omicron 2022), tragically entered the Chapter Invisi- ble on Friday, June 30, 2023, when he was involved in a fatal two-car accident. Hill was a rising senior at the University of North Caro- lina at Chapel Hill, majoring in exercise sports science and minoring in chemis- try. In addition, He was a Pre-Med major and aspired to become an Orthopedic Surgeon. George Leander Hill, Jr. was born on March 23, 2002, to George Sr. and Karen Annette Hill. He was raised in Durham, NC. After graduating from Durham’s Wakefield High School in 2020, he entered UNC on a full academic scholarship. Hill was highly active in college. He played on the UNC Tar Heel junior varsity men’s basketball team. He was a member of numerous campus orga- nizations and programs,

M ichael L. Labat, Sr. (New Orleans (LA) AL 1965) peace- fully entered the Chapter Invisible at his home with his loving wife of 58 years, Connie Ray, by his side on Sunday, March 19, 2023. Michael Laydell Labat was born to Victor and Jeanne Labat on January 10, 1942, in New Orleans, LA. Labat attended Xavier University of Louisiana, graduating with a PharmD degree. Labat worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 50 years and began his career in New Orleans, working six years as a pharmacist. He subsequently relocated to Maplewood, NJ, and entered pharmaceutical sales. He worked over 40 years in sales and senior management positions, including Director of Contract Sales, Product Advertising Manager, Regional Manager of Government Affairs, and

Senior Manager of Car- diovascular Sales, with Hoffman La Roche and Bristol-Myers Squibb. He was a trailblazer, the first black Pharmaceutical Rep hired in the south by Hoffman La Roche. Labat took tremendous pride in being one of the top award-winning and leading district sales managers at every company he worked for. During that time, he nurtured, coached, and mentored those who worked for him and the peers he partnered with. Labat also worked in the Television Industry as an Account Executive with Lifetime Medical Television and the American Medical Association, developing and promoting medical educa- tion programs to physician audiences. Labat held memberships in numerous professional pharmaceutical organi- zations and businesses, including serving as

including Minority Men in Medicine, UNC Minority Alliance of Pre-Health Scholars, and UNC Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students. He also participated in the Medical Education Devel- opment Program with the UNC School of Medicine. Brother George L. Hill, Jr. is preceded in death by his father, George, Sr. (Eta Sigma 1982). He is survived by his mother, sisters Jas- mine Jennette and Jill Hill, stepfather Fred Lawson, UNC teammates, fellow Theta Omicron members, girlfriend Nina Cherry, and a host of relatives, close friends, and the UNC community. ♦
