GRAND POLEMARCH’S GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Grand Polemarch’s Golf Tour- nament was held on July 17, 2023, at the historic Rogers Park Golf Course. Grand Polemarch Shelton was driven by the rich history of this course and determined to host the Grand Chapter Meeting tournament there. Lionel Ballard, who co-authored “Rogers Park Golf Course: 18 Holes of History” with Ersula K. Odom (Sula Too Publishing) in January, was on hand to recount the history of how Tampa legend Dr. Gar- field Devoe Rogers, Sr. commissioned the course’s development. Since its opening, the park and course have served as a thriving center of excellence for the commu- nity, including for the YMCA Urban Junior Golf program, the First Tee of Tampa Bay. A unique opportunity was provided when Tampa Alumni Vice Polemarch Clinton Paris, Esq. (Zeta Chi 1985) shared how members of Kappa Alpha Psi advocated to ensure the course remained open when it was under threat. Those in attendance honored the tournament and the course’s rich history. The conclave week continued with the official opening at the Public Meeting, where Tampa city officials and dignitaries, the host province, and local chapters gave greetings. Special presentations were given by leaders of the National Pan-Hellenic Council member organizations. Humanitarian Awards were presented
