GRAND POLEMARCH’S POST-CONCLAVE MESSAGE
BE INFORMED, INVOLVED AND INVESTED IN KAPPA ALPHA PSI’S SUCCESS
of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., for allowing me to take the helm of this mighty ship for this period in our illustrious history. That I might steer our course to a destination of great- ness, and add yet another chapter of our achievement in our story books with the men who you selected and elected to serve alongside me as the 35th Administration. I promise that we won’t let you down. On April 24, 1991, at 9:03:59 p.m. in the Elder Watson Diggs Memorial on the campus of Indiana University, I crossed the burning sands into Kap- paland at the originator, the Indiana University Chapter, the Alpha of Kap- pa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. So Alpha Chapter stand up as we honor and we celebrate having a Grand Polemarch and a Junior Grand Vice Polemarch elected at the 86th Grand Chapter Meeting. My Brothers, I say ‘Yo.’ I believe that nothing happens by accident. So, as we move forward from today, my question to you, Brothers, is: What accomplishments will be tied to your story of the great- ness of Kappa Alpha Psi? My charge to you is that you be ready to execute God’s plan for your Kappa life. I’m asking the 35th Administration is ask- ing every member of Kappa Alpha Psi to do three things moving forward. To be informed, involved, and invested in Kappa Alpha Psi’s success. By being informed I’m asking that you understand the power and the privilege of what you’re a part of. Be
from the days of our founding where racial hatred and the attacks of the hooded horsemen of the Ku Klux Klan founded only 20 minutes from the campus of Indiana University sought to derail us out the gates. Through the years of racial segre- gation and our continual struggle for equality and our piece of the Amer- ican dream, to current day America where we stand in a time and in a state that’s trying to whitewash his- tory, that wants to exclude the story of our people and make America great again. So that historical dream of our founders now represents an even greater responsibility placed on our shoulders. To elevate this great organization to be more relevant and a more significant force. So I’m honored by your vote, by your confi- dence, and the associated challenge to lead this fraternity forward, to accomplish all that the dreams of our Founders’ demand of its leader as your 35th Grand Polemarch. Since Kappa Alpha Psi is an organization founded on Christian principles, you must surely under- stand that I must first give thanks to the one whose grace enables us to live and breathe to serve this great fraternity of ours. For the Lord has allowed us to gather as a fraternity, and His grace and mercy will cover us and enable us to achieve in every field of human endeavor. So, Lord, I just say thank you. Secondly, I thank the membership
W hen each member shows he cares how every other Kap- pa fares and our obligation jointly shares, that’s the Kappa of my dreams. And when Greeks from every place admit that Kappa leads the race, and our achievement set the pace, that’s the Kappa of my dreams. How awesome to stand as a member of the greatest fraternity ever created. How fitting that we represent men from all corners of the country who would otherwise be strangers if not for the bold audacity of a coura- geous dreamer, that we can unite college men of culture, patriotism, and honor in a bond of fraternity. We are tied to the dream that achieve- ment is our goal. How appropriate that a dream envisioned 112 years ago still rep- resents the promise of its original intent, that we might raise the sights of a people higher than previously imagined. That we might be the support system for each other to en- courage honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor. That very same dream has powered us throughout the errors of our history
