ADDITIONAL OCCASIONS During lunch, Dean Morrone expressed her appreciation for the fraternity, the Kappa Foundation, and Indiana University partnership. She gifted Grand Polemarch McMikle with a lamppost banner that features Founder Diggs as a distinguished alumni of the School of Education. His image is featured on three different walkway lampposts along with several other esteemed School of Education alumni leading to the W.W. Wright Education Building. Dean Morrone also gave appreciation gifts to Grand Historian Scott and Executive Director Stepney. The School of Education students who were the 2nd and 3rd recipients of the Elder Watson Diggs Scholarship were announced and recognized during the
Cheeks, and Leslie Bassett, their hus- bands, and a great-great-grandnephew were present for this occasion. Indiana University Provost and Executive Vice President Rahul Shrivastav on behalf of university President Pamela Whitten. School of Education Dean Morrone also gave brief comments welcoming the guests and thanking Kappa Alpha Psi and the Kappa Foundation for the partner- ship that resulted in the portrait. She introduced fraternity representatives, Grand Polemarch McMikle, Kappa Foundation President DuBose, Junior Grand Vice Polemarch Smith, and Grand Historian Scott. Each gave poignant perspectives about Founder Diggs and the significance of having this portrait dedicated to the institu- tion. Following DuBose’s comments,
he had Grand Polemarch McMikle, Provost Shrivastav, and Dean Morrone joined him on the stage for the pre- sentation of the $100,000 check for the Elder Watson Diggs Scholarship Endowment on behalf of the Kappa Foundation. After his comments, Scott announced portrait artist Mr. Warren. He expressed his pleasure in producing the work and being selected to contrib- ute to such a historic endeavor. Following the remarks, Provost Shri- vastav and Grand Polemarch McMikle returned to the stage and unveiled the 36” x 30” portrait. Once the crimson veil was lifted, guests marveled at the realistic facial features and Diggs’ calm and imposing persona captured in the oil painting. Excited attendees took photographs with the portrait, followed immediately by lunch.
