Shortly after college, Sam married his best friend and sweetheart Sandra “Sandy” Hamilton. Their fifty-seven-year union stands as a shining example of the power of love. With Sandy by his side, Brother Hamilton settled down and established new roots in Hartford, Connecticut, where he would thrive fra- ternally and professionally. Samuel C. Hamilton immediately joined the Hartford (CT) Alumni Chapter after his move to Connecticut and served in a variety of roles in his more than 50 years of service affiliation with the chapter. Sam holds the Hartford Alumni Chapter’s highest award for service (The Boce Barlow Lifetime Achieve- ment Award). Hartford Alumni also hosts its annual Samuel C. Hamilton Golf Classic, a tournament named in his honor to raise scholarship dollars. In 1988, Brother Hamilton was appointed the 20th Northeastern Province Polemarch by Grand Polemarch Ulysses McBride. In that role, Sam was the driving force behind Kappa’s expansion into the far reaches of the Northeastern Province, chartering new chapters in Connecticut, Rhode

Records and Exchequer. He was re-elected to the same position in 1993. Grand Polemarch Ronald R. Young named Hamilton the first National Director of Organizational Effectiveness in 1995, leading the plan to reorganize the International Headquarters (IHQ). In that role, Brother Hamilton pro- vided guidance to the Grand Polemarch, Grand Board of Directors and International Headquarters, in the coordi- nation of strategic planning, program development, organizational realignment and delivery of membership services. The delegates of the 74th Grand Chapter elected Hamilton to the office of Senior Grand Vice Pole- march. He was re-elected to the same office at the 75th Grand Chapter Meeting. Elected 30th Grand Pole- march at the 76th Grand Chapter Meeting, Sam introduced the concept of “Servant Leadership” as an administrative practice. He would establish a new level of accountability through the Kappa Scorecard as a tool to ensure account- ability of the leadership to the membership. Sam would provide redirection, revitalization, and recapi- talization to Kappa Alpha Psi. He would stabilize the

Island, and New Hamp- shire. He chartered the first undergraduate chapters in Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. A total of twenty-six chapters (19 undergraduate and 7 alumni) were chartered in the Northeastern Province due to his leadership efforts. He holds the highest award for service in the Northeast- ern Province (The James M.

Kidd Distinguished Service Award) for his continuous outstanding service to the province. The Northeastern Province has also named an award in his honor (The Samuel C. Hamilton Alumni Achievement Award). At the 70th Grand Chapter Meeting in 1991, the Grand Chapter del- egates elected Hamilton as the Grand Keeper of
