B roderick R. Craw- ford (Mu 1981) was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on June 20, 1961, to his father, Luther Crawford, and his mother, Beverly Crawford. Brother Crawford was their first-born child of seven children and entered the Chapter Invisible on November 27, 2022, at 61. Crawford was active in the Kansas City (MO) Alumni Chapter. He served as Mu Chapter advisor for the undergraduate chapter at the University of Kansas for at least ten years. He was a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Frater- nity, Inc. He served as the Keeper of Records, Vice Polemarch, and on the Board of Directors of the Kansas City Alumni Chapter. He served as Middle Western Province Senior Vice Polemarch before being appointed the 15th Middle Western Province Polemarch in 1998 and served for two

Because of his commitment to the community, Crawford received several notable National Awards and recog- nitions, including the 2018 US News and World Report Community Health Lead- ership Award and the 2018 LISC Kansas City Award. He recently had an annual scholarship and fund named the Broderick R. Crawford Award, established through the Kansas Birth Equity Network. Crawford was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, Bernice Hess and Gracie Lee and Doyle Crawford, his father, Luther Crawford. He leaves his significant other of 25 years, Kim Dixon; two sons, Broderick, Jr., and Kaleb; his loving mother, Beverly; and his Kappa family. ♦
years. Crawford loved the fraternity and has over 42 years of dedicated service to Kappa Alpha Psi Frater- nity, Inc. After college, Crawford established himself in the health field, working for many years with many doctors, nurses, and medical staff at KU Medical Center, St. Luke’s Medical System, and many others. Crawford was active in the community and strived to make life better for others. He served as Executive Director of the New Bethel Church Community Development Corporation. Brother Crawford was a consummate
community volunteer and dedicated his life to assisting and improving the lives of Kansas City, Kansas resi- dents. Crawford’s passion for community health and academic healthcare institu- tions led to his participation on numerous community organizations, academic and medical institution boards, and committees through- out the city including Wyandotte County Public Health Department Health Equity Task Force, Chair of the Jersey Creek Trail Taskforce, KUMC Diver- sity Equity and Inclusion Cabinet, Kansas University Cancer Center Patient and
