Sundaymorning wasmisty with fog drifting in from the Ottawa River in some parts of Eastern Ontario. The rising sun soon burned away themist, leaving the weather cool and clear for the Annual Terry Fox Run Weekend. In the Hawkesbury area, the Terry Fox Run involved a 10-kilometre round-trip tour of Voyageur Provincial Park. Located a short distance from the Ontario-Québec border, the park provided a safe place for runners, walkers, and cyclists of all ages to do their bit to help keep Terry’s Dream of a cure for cancer alive. She and her two daughters and two granddaughters, who live in and around the Hawkesbury area, made up a three-generation Fox Run team. “I’ve done this 18 years straight,”Meister said, “though I have done it (off and on) years before.This is where I meet withmy family.” “I actually ran with Terry Fox when I was nine years old,” said Deborah Pharand, one of Meister’s daughters. “He passed out house on his run through Ontario,” saidMeister. “She got out and ran with him for three kilometres.” The five women have dedicated their ef- forts for the Terry Fox Run for a particular purpose this year. “This year’s very important,”Meister said. “My husband has lung cancer, and he’s in treatment now for it.” Michella Lavigne, a park’s staff member who is the organizer for this year’s Hawkes- bury Fox Run, reported Monday 46 partici- pants for this year’s event with $1885 raised to go towards cancer research programs.
