ceived for a long time after it is paid for. It is now nearly two thousand years since Jesus gave His life to redeem the world from Satan, but the Father has received as yet only a part of it, and every one who believes in Jesus is of that part. His prom ise to return was made then, but He has not yet come. But He w ill! And the world will yet belong to the Father. How different it would have been if those who despised Him had known that He really, was a Prince—even a King 1 He is King over kings, and Lord over lords. Had they who hated Him known that, they would have flocked to Him. Had they be lieved that He was God, it would have changed things. He it is to whom every thing belongs, for He made all things. He it is who gives to all and takes away when He will. He who had everything seemed, on earth, to have nothing; so that those who chose Him chose Him for Himself alone. It is not strange, perhaps, that the world refused Him then. But now, when the world knows who He is and what He has done, it is strange and sad that He is still refused. And that is the work o f Sa tan, for as He deceived Eve, so he still de ceives the world. [To be continued ] How Could She Love Him More? One night, as a little girl knelt for her good night prayer time, her mother, as mothers sometimes do, suggested things for her little daughter to pray about and to give thanks for. “W on’t you ask the Lord Jesus to help you to love Him more?” said the mother. The child lifted her head, and there was a puzzled look in her clear eyes. “What is it, dear?” asked her mother. “ Did you say for me to ask Him to help me to love Him more ?” came the question. “Yes, my darling.” “ But how can I love Him more, Mum- mie? I am just crazy about Him now." A Box of Jewels

pest-laden air, He said, “ Peace, be still.” And there was a great calm. Only God can do these things. And He is God. He made the water. He made Lucifer, who became Satan, and it was to him He spoke in the storm. The waters obey Him when He speaks. Satan, too, gives way, at the word o f Jesus. Many other things He did— so many, the Book o f the Great King tells us, that, if they were all written, the world itself could not contain the books. As the days passed, Jesus chose several men to be with Him as He went about. They were mostly simple, kindly Jewish fishermen—and they loved Him dearly. It was the poor who heard Him gladly, for, though He came for the rich also, they were satisfied, and did not know that, though they had everything the world could give, in the end they would have nothing, if they did not forsake the Wicked Prince. “ The Father hath sent me,” He said. “I am come to show you the way back to Him. I tell you the truth. And whosoever believeth in me hath everlasting life, for I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Multitudes followed Him because of the miracles that He did. One day He said, “I and my Father are one.” And they began to hate Him, for they did not understand that Elohim is Three Persons in One God. He said, too, that He was their long-prom ised King and Messiah, and had come as the Book of the Jews said He would come. And they sought then to kill Him. This drew the disciples nearer to Him, and they were much alone, as Jesus wished it to be, for He had much to teach them. He spoke more and more of the time not far off when those who hated Him would kill Him, but always He said that He would rise again on the third day. After that, He would be with them on earth a little while, and then return to the King dom o f Marvelous Light, to wait until all was ready for Him to come again and take His throne as King of the Jews and Lord o f all the earth. “ But wilt Thou not at this time set up the kingdom?” they asked. “ It is as I have said,” He answered. “ I must .first suffer all these things, for be sides being the King o f the Jews, I have come to redeem the world from Satan. I have come that sin and death may be de stroyed, and Satan, the author of them, forever and completely vanquished. I go, but I will return, and then the kingdom shall be restored.” “ But when shall these things be?” they still questioned. “ The Father alone knoweth. But be of good cheer. I will return.” Although He spoke so plainly, they did not understand how these things could be. They loved Him and wished that He would at once take His place as King. They thought that the Father would receive the world as soon as Jesus redeemed it. But it often happens that a thing is not re

The Story of the Great King B y H elen H owarth L emmel o r m a n y y e a r s after the Jerusalem journey, no one outside o f Nazareth heard much about the Lord Jesus. But suddenly a Stranger appeared often in the towns and country round about. He walked and talked as a king might, though He wore the simple garb o f the poor. He seemed to have no home, for few knew where He lived. When He spoke, people obeyed Him, never stopping to think why, or to ask who it was who thus commanded them. The children loved and would follow Him. There were some who did not like this, and because they wished to talk to Him themselves, would try to send the children away. This dis pleased Him, and He said sternly, “ Let the little ones come unto Me, and forbid them not. And I tell you truly that unless ye become like them, ye shall not enter the Kingdom o f Marvelous Light. O f such, as these is the kingdom o f heaven.” For this kingly One was Jesus o f Nazareth. He went about doing good, atid teach ing of that which He had come to do, for it was nearly time for the plan to be car ried out on the earth. He did many wonderful things. Mothers brought sick children to Him, and older ones came also. And He healed them every one. Some who were dead, He brought back to life. One day, He met a sad procession. It was the funeral o f a lad, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. Jesus stopped the bearers of the dead boy and spoke to him whose ears were thought to be shut forever. But at once he sat up and leaped into the arms o f his glad mother. Another time, a ruler named Jairus came to ask Him to heal his little daughter. While he was speaking, some one came and said that she was dead. But Jesus went to the house, and into the room where the lit tle girl lay. Taking her hand, He said something like this : “Little pet lamb, wake up.” And she did, though she really had been dead. Death is just sleep to those who believe in and love Jesus, who is the Lord o f life and the conqueror of death. Then again, when a multitude had fol lowed Jesus far from the town, He, know ing they were hungry, took five small loaves and two little fishes—the lunch given Him by a boy who was in the crowd that followed Him, and He made enough out o f that to feed five thousand! And there was much left over. What wonder ful things one little boy and Jesus can do, when that little boy gives himself and all that he has to Jesus 1 No matter what it is, nor how little, nor how little the boyl Jesus spent much time at the Sea of Galilee, and the people marveled at the things He did there. One day with some others, He was in a boat, and a storm came that threatened to sink it. He was asleep, being very weary, but they waken ed Him. He stood up, and looking out upon the raging waves, through the tem
