CREATE A HOME OFFICE THAT WORKS FOR YOU Stop Working From Your Couch!

DECIDE ON A DESIGNATED SPACE. Your home needs to be clean, organized, and distraction-free. Don’t plan on moving around your house with your work computer throughout the day. Instead, set everything up in a designated room or area of your home, ideally away from the common areas. This will help your family recognize when you’re in work mode so they don’t needlessly bother you. You’ll also avoid distractions when other activities occur around your home. BUY COMFORTABLE FURNITURE. You shouldn’t throw your home office together with an old card table and one of your kitchen chairs. Make it feel like a real work environment. Consider purchasing an adjustable chair with lumbar support to maintain and improve your posture. If you’re worried about sitting all day, look into standing desks. You want your work area to be as comfortable as possible. KEEP IT CLEAN AND PERSONALIZED. Where you work should bring you at least some joy. Decorate it with pictures of your family and friends, inspirational sayings, and other knick-knacks that produce happy thoughts. You should also make an extra effort to keep the area clean. Don’t let your coffee mugs and trash pile up. Spend time organizing and cleaning your workspace at the end of each day. It might help to purchase a desk organizer to keep your files and other documents in a designated area.

The pandemic popularized the idea of remote work, but even a few years later, many Americans are still working from the comfort of their homes. Whether you work remotely full time or take a hybrid approach and only work from home a few days per week, having a dedicated workspace is vital to managing your responsibilities. When you have a home office that supports your efforts, you’ll be much more productive and focused while performing your regular tasks. Setting up a home office isn’t as simple as placing your laptop on the kitchen table. It takes intention and thoughtful planning to ensure your office fits your needs. Here are a few ways to design an office that promotes productivity and good work habits.
