TEXARKANA MONTHLY

car while you and your friends sit in the other! Genius idea, I know. Thank me later. Happy Birthday, Ludwig! Concert hosted by Texarkana Symphony Orchestra! I’m having vivid flashbacks of every field trip I went on with my school to the Perot Theatre. This concert celebrating the legacy and musical genius of Ludwig van Beethoven for his 250th birthday is the perfect night out for those who want to get all dressed up, enjoy a relaxing atmosphere, and listen to beautiful music to boot! Don’t miss out on this opportunity! The concert will take place at the Perot Theatre in downtown Texarkana. You can call the box office at 903-792-4992 or visit the box office Monday-Friday from 10 am-5 pm to purchase tickets, as they are not currently available online. 10 Artists -1 Night Art Exhibit at the Omega Building, Downtown Texarkana For all the art lovers out there or people who are in the market for more than your typical Hobby Lobby budget artwork, Joseph Raymond is hosting the 5th annual 10 Artists-1 Night art exhibit November 5, from 5-9 pm at the beautiful Omega Building in downtown Texarkana. As described by Joseph Raymond, exhibitors can “browse and purchase original works from 10 local and regional artists in an unforgettable atmosphere with drinks and live jazz music.” This year’s show is showcasing works from internationally acclaimed stainless- steel sculptor Ryan Schmidt, paintings by Joseph Raymond, Tyler Arnold, Jess Weiner and Polly Cook, who will also offer her signature ceramics. Other pieces of art include James Hayes’ art glass, wood portraits on display by Allan Philips, wood sculpture by Jon Welborn, pottery by Chris Thomas and realistic portrait works by Holly Perez. Admission is free! 2020 Thanksgiving Day Virtual Turkey Trot This holiday season wouldn’t be complete without the 7th annual Turkey Trot, benefitting Community Healthcore, a non-profit agency that is the local Mental Health Authority for nine counties, including

Bowie, Cass and Red River counties. Because of COVID-19, there will be a virtual race this year. Join in the family tradition of a 5K or a one-mile fun walk as a great start to your Thanksgiving Day festivities. After some quick research to find out how the “virtual” race would work, I confirmed that each runner will sign up online, run on their own, and times will be logged through the www.runsignup. com website. A quick Google search of “Texarkana Thanksgiving Turkey Trot” will lead you where you need to go. Entry fees are $25 for each participant, raising funds for a great cause.

As we’re coming around to the holidays, which are normally a very busy time of year, there are some well-loved Texarkana events missing from the lineup because of COVID-19. Let’s make sure not to miss our remaining opportunities to be out and about, attending fun local community events like these and taking part in special moments with friends and neighbors. It’s what will put us back on track to finding that once seemingly far-fetched idea of “normal” again and get us into the spirit of this magical holiday season.
