Earlier in the day, the member tribes of NIGA re-affirmed by acclimation their commitment to the leadership of both Chairman Ernie Stevens, Jr. and Secretary Paulette Jordan, both running unopposed for re-election to their positions. Swearing-in ceremonies were held as part of the evening’s event. Chairman Stevens and Secretary Jordan also celebrated and recognized the work of Reina Thiele for her pioneering work on behalf of Indian Country under the Obama Administration as the associate director of Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement. The evening culminated with a performance by the iconic, American R&B group, The Pointer Sisters who captured the audience with their legendary tunes such as I’m So Excited, Jump and Neutron Dance to name a few.
