LESSON 8.5 SkillBuilder: Communicating

LEARNING INTENTION By the end of this SkillBuilder you should be able to construct a pie graph to communicate information.

8.5.1 Tell me What is a pie graph?

A pie graph, or pie chart, is a graph in which slices or segments represent the size of different parts that make up the whole. The circle of 360 degrees represents the total, or 100 per cent of whatever is being examined. Pie charts are useful for easily seeing the size of the segments. Presenting the parts in order, from largest to smallest, makes it easier to interpret. A pie graph can be drawn by hand or using a spreadsheet program such as Excel.
