8.7.2 Showme How to use a topological map You will need: • a topological map (see FIGURE1 ). Model

FIGURE1 shows a topological map of central Paris designed for tourists. It highlights key sites and their locations relative to the river. For example, the Champs-Élysées and the Louvre are on the same side and close to each other. Major routes between monuments are indicated, though they may not be the shortest due to the lack of scale, making it challenging to judge distances accurately. Despite this, the map gives a general idea of where attractions are located, helping tourists plan their visits. For instance, deciding whether to walk along the river or take another route from the Eiffel Tower to the Arc de Triomphe might require additional maps or guidance.

Procedure Step1

Look around the topological map and identify the key features shown. In FIGURE1 , almost 30 major tourist attractions of Paris are shown as drawings of each place. Some drawings are larger than others, which might show the signiýcance and the popularity of these places with tourists.
