The combined impact of both cyclones had a devastating effect on Vanuatu: • 250 000 people, more than 80 per cent of the population, were displaced. • The estimated damage to agriculture, infrastructure and homes was around $689 million. • 26 per cent of the nation’s arterial road network was inaccessible, with northern islands most severely affected. • Nearly 8000 hectares of land was flooded. 9.12.6 What aid did Australia provide? Australia was quick to respond and provide aid to Vanuatu.

The Australian Government has provided 12.775 million in response to TCs Judy and Kevin
Australian support will reach up to 200 000 people. This includes humanitarian emergency supplies for over 160 000 people provided through Red Cross, UN agencies and NGOs and delivered by the ADF
A Rapid Response Team will provide logistical support to restore water, sanitations and power services and provide shelter
Australian Medical Assistance Teams are providing lifesaving healthcare in affected communities

Chinook helicopters
Airlifts
from Australia delivering humanitarian support
delivering personnel and essential supplies to remote localities
• Over 100 tonnes of humanitarian aid • 600 personnel to aid in cleanup and recovery deployed with of emergency supplies and personnel to repair critical infrastructure
