The main states for Australian Rules football are Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania. The Gold Coast Suns started in 2009, helping more kids join AFL.

The Gold Coast hosted the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Metricon Stadium was upgraded for athletics and ceremonies. Australia has hosted ýve Commonwealth Games, but this was the ýrst time they were not held in a state capital city. The Gold Coast isn’t the only city in Queensland for big sports events. Brisbane will host the 2032 Summer Olympics, which will provide many opportunities for using existing venues and perhaps building new ones.
